I have a 2005 tacoma with possible blown hs. Was wondering if anyone has repaired one and how much it cost. I just need a rough estimate. Thanks

I have the same problem with my 2005. Dealership estimate today was $2,500 - $2,800 dollars to replace the head gasket.

I will be doing this myself as soon as weather and secondary cars permit. Worst case scenario, replacing head with used one for around 300 or less and a lot reading, perusing this site, scratching my head, bleeding and cussing.

    :)

4cyl or 6cyl? My son's '98 4Runner with a 4cyl cost about $300.00 in parts and a 12 hour day to fix. I'm not sure about a 6cyl but I'd imagine it should be about the same, that is, if your doing the work yourself...

though they really aren't line by line, a Haynes or Chilton will really give you an idea of what you may be getting into. anything is possible if you put your mind into it.

just remember, all you have to do is take it apart, and put it back together. think about the poor bastard that designed it!

Apparently there's an issue with the 05 tacomas, fj, and 4 runners. They all seem to be failing at cylinder 6. I got quoted at $2400 and I'm from Hawaii so I guess that reasonable.

$40 for a can of sealer for 2004 Sporttrac. It works better if you use pure water and not coolant. External leak only. Still holding at 15k.

Is there a way to positively assert that one or both head gaskets are blown before lifting the engine cover and doing all the work ? my 2007 V6 is showing some possible indications (as per this thread) but I don't get "frothiness" on my oil dipstick. check engine code is P0010

Big factor will be if the head is damaged or not. And you won't know till you remove it.

On another marquee a fully rebuilt head was about $200 more than moving my components to their fresh head. So that was my choice. If it's a v6 and that level of attention was needed, AND it was high miles AND compression work showed any sketchiness on the other bank, I'd do both and have the whole top end refreshed.

http://www.cylinder-heads.com/ was my source, not affiliated, etc etc.
