Oh my friend Jim and I went there once after a morning of mayhem, no one there but us. The lake is down a hill through trees from the parking area correct?

We like our tires, studded Bighorns in winter and BFGs otherwise. And lift? I don't know if we need it. But fancy shocks might be nice......I feel like we could do better in that dept ride wise......

no kiddin! That thing is awesome! Eric would love it! I would too......every time we go on a trip, he throws his fishing stuff in the back of the Taco all haphazardly on top of other stuff, and we wind up getting a hook stuck into some piece of luggage with nice clothes or something, plus the line gets all tangled around 5 billion things  Makes for a nice friendly screaming :argue: match in the hotel parking lots when this is discovered, great way to kick off a nice vacation together :D Then he never even winds up going fishing  He'd blame that part on me though :D

OK snake experts!! What kind is this guy? Hint, he was found in an area that has western rattlesnakes AND also another kind of harmless snake that looks very similar to rattlers. I am honestly not sure myself what he is, hoping someone will know for sure!

Did you see a sign on a tree with a dog's name on it? We scattered ashes of a 4 legged kid up at that lake back in 2008. Went up a couple years ago and were pleasantly surprised to see the sign still there. Just a piece of wood that Eric carved her name on, nailed to a big tree near the shore, maybe 50' further down the lake shore from the primary hang out site by the lake.

That dog was a swimming NUT! She would keep swimming nearly across that lake to fetch a stick a billion times in a row, would probably keep going for days on end if you'd keep throwing it. Totally OCD for swimming. Our other two had zero interest in swimming, they'd rather run around the woods, but that one would dive straight in as soon as she was let out of the Taco. And she had fear aggression problems, so going there was perfect, because we knew no else would show up, so we could let her loose in spite of her issues and let her burn off some of that insane energy she had and just be a happy, relaxed dog for a while doing what she loved more than anything - swimming. I can still picture her little furry round head barely sticking above the water, with her little nostrils snorting away as she breathed while swimming with some tree limb 10 times the size of herself in her mouth. We'd have to trick her to leave there, not kidding. Other two would load right up, we'd get all our gear loaded, and just like a little kid arguing with their mom to stay at a pool, we'd wait until the very last thing and then start trying to coax her. The only thing that ever worked was to start driving down the road pretending like we were leaving her. We'd see her in the rearview mirror, standing her ground for a bit with this stubborn look, then her look changed to wondering if we were really leaving, and finally she'd start chasing after us :)

Sorry, didn't mean to get depressing TW. Can't sleep, then started thinking about that lake and all the good memories up there........figured may as well share since I'm wired anyway. Going to watch some Deadwood, that outta put me to sleep  Nice quiet show :D

Random pic, really no particular reason for sharing, other than it's automotive related and kind of neat looking...

We went there long before 2008 so the sign wouldn't have been there yet. Nice memorial.

I don't remember the name or exactly how we got there. Perhaps you could PM me the name so I can look on a map? I promise never to reveal it.

Rattle snake's heads are triangular and twice as wide as the body where there join it. All pit vipers have heads like that (rattle snakes, cotton mouths, copperheads). I don't know of any non-venemous snake with a triangular head much wider than the body.

Thanks! It was definitely fitting for the situation. She will be swimming to her heart's content there forever : ) Which is why I'm not giving up the name of that place. I know it's become more popular over the years, but I still like to think of it as our secret place. A few years ago, Eric said some dude at his work told him about a "new" place he discovered.....it wound up being that lake! I imagine it's been "found" by lots more people over the years. But it's still my secret spot in my mind : )

The swimmer was the little brown gal, closest to the lake of course....
