Had a reliable source in the past claim that it was 270HP... he also spoke of many things months before the reveal that all happened to be true. Sorry, can't name drop, I know, i know...Adding that, along with this Mexican article... I'm starting to believe that 270 is our HP number. BUT! Til Toyota comes out and says it... nothing is REALLY confirmed.

Fair enough. I'm not calling you out. Just trying to get some actual firm confirmation which probably won't come until Toyota releases the number.

I wouldn't put any faith in that article though. It was released before the 2016 Tacoma even had an engine code.

Probably not going to spank anybody, that hp supposed to be near 6000 RPM (thats non us spec engine). Also 276 HP supposedly is for High octane fuel too. So that would be double waaam.
I saw (in the same post) MPG numbers but those could not be right by even long stretch.
On the other hand they would explain why numbers have not been reveled yet.

Yeah, I've heard a 5800 RPM redline is in the cards. Not sure if that's what you heard. If the torque drops off after 4000 rpm though the engine could still be better than the Colorado down low. That's where Toyota could pull off a winner. Not saying they will for sure though.

The Colorado's 3.6 L literally screams whenever you ask if for power. It makes my S/C seem calm under the hood. That can't be good for reliability. I'm hoping the 7GR can make more torque down low and avoid the +5000 RPM plus rev's all the time.

As for mpg I've head nothing that I would call reliable. At the end of the day I'd expect 24 mpg on the sticker, and just below 20 mpg IRL. Similar to the current Colorado.

The GM LS2, arguably one of the best motors to ever exist, redlines at 6,500RPM. There's nothing wrong with a good motor that has a healthy redline. In fact, it just means the heads are well built. :D

I never said there was anything with a high redline. I just don't want a truck that operates above 4,500 RPM anytime I need to accelerate or haul something.

Don't try to relate the LS2 to a CUV engine

Colorado Diesel numbers are popping up, anyone else see these?

    http://gmauthority.com/blog/2015/03...colorados-upcoming-2-8l-duramax-diesel-video/

No offense to GM, the torque number is outstanding, but I was hoping for more HP somewhere in the low 200's... I don't see this truck working out for the average consumer. For those that like to off road and sip fuel it'll likely be popular though.

Actually the fuel economy numbers in real life can vary from person to person. If the new engine only got 20 mpg then I'd say toyota failed epically. Considering I get about 20 on the highway with the 1grfe toyota better get 24-26 mpg on the highway.

Yep, read that a couple months ago.

I would totally dig that truck, as I tend to be a lugger, and do a ton of back country exploring..and try my best to stay off the interstate other than my commute to work...though the speed limit on the section I drive is only 65, so that combo would still be good for my daily drive as well...have bud who is getting 28-30 mpg out of his EcoDiesel...too bad the rest of the truck is POS.

Now if GM will have it available in the base model, to keep the price low for us dirt bag truck buyers. That is the one thing Ram did right...offering a work truck model. I am finding brand new basic EcoDiesel 4WD Regular Cabs on the local lots here around the $30K mark...if GM can hit that price point, that would be a winner in my book.

In Canada we can only get the Ecodiesel on the outdoorsman model and above.

Its a car engine, they all do this. That new Tacoma engine looks to be the same thing. 270 HP at even at 5800 RPM is not that good.

That is exactly what you want, High Torque at low RPMs. The fact that it gets only 181HP but 396 lb-ft means its getting all that Torque at super low RPms, that also means truck will stay on high gear most of the time, that also means you will see 30 MPG on that thing often and be able to tow easily with out dropping in too many gears. Lets just hope GM did not screwed up something in design and that will be very popular truck.

Bummer, that is the one thing Ram did right, offering the oil burner in the dirt bag model...too bad their build quality isn't the best. Or they would have my money.

    http://www.lhmdodgeboise.com/new/Ram/2015-Ram-1500-boise-e6deb6fd0a0a00e002f6c8244bba8d6f.htm

I am guessing GM won't offer the diesel in the WT's, they are offering a chassis cab (cool!)...at only a $300 savings (eh, not so cool...)
