Directly off the Old Man Emu website:

"Numerous spring options are available to suit a multitude of applications, allowing you to set your vehicle up for recreational or commercial purposes. Feature packed, a set of Emu Dakar leaf springs matched to a set of Old Man Emu 4×4 shock absorbers will deliver vastly improved ride, handling and load carrying capability.
    • Two-stage leaf pack: Featured on most rear springs for optimum comfort. When unladen the vehicle is largely riding on the primary stage, with the secondary stage providing additional support when a heavy load is added."

I'm worried we're now filling this thread with useless arguing. If the above information isn't advertising increased carrying capacity then I don't have a solid grasp on the english language.

I do sincerely hope this info is helpful OP.

no one is arguing and this is good info for anyone looking into suspension upgrades so its not off topic at all.

I never claim to know everything and welcome any chance to learn something or be corrected if my info is incorrect, its all about helping people.

im still unclear if all the dakars add something extra or if only certain ones used the shocks they speak of are "required" for it to aid in the extra payload but it does say it improves payload so it must be doing something more then stock. definitely something to be researched more for those looking at buying new leafs.

by the way, your website link says they don't make dakars for first gens, only second gens are listed in their product line. that must be a mistake because OME are supposed to be dakars aren't they?

No worries man, I feel the same. I'm not running the OME shocks but I do know that the Nitrochargers aren't air shocks or something so they aren't taking any kind of load.

As for the no 1st gen option, you're right I hadn't noticed that. I'm sure if you call you could order 1st gens but that's weird that they wouldn't offer them online. I bought mine through a third-party site.

Maybe some of the dozens of other dudes running the dakars could comment with opinions on payload increase?

I agree thanks for all the info.

The OME Dakars look awesome and I'm sure I would love them, but if I can get the HD general springs significantly cheaper with the appropriate lift, that's probably what I'll do. When I look under the truck, I can't see any sign of different shacles or anything else to provide the lift, it just looks like stiffer springs do it. I'll try and take some pics after work today. Again, I don't really care about ride quality or off-roading, just capacity and durability. Thanks for all your help and information members!

Hey all, here are a couple pics of the suspension as it is set up right now.
    Rear:

    Front:

The PO told me she gave it 3" of lift with adjustable Bilstiens up front and an AAL in the rear. I see no extra spacers up front and the rear shacles don't look to be upgraded to me. So, my lift is just provided with extra stiff spings right? Thanks again for the feedback

    Holy slabs of rust.

It appears to be just what you think. I can't tell what setting the 5100s or on due to the rust, though. If you scratch some off and find out, that'll tell you if the coils have been upgraded, but they're most likely OEM.

The Dakars are too high for many people. To compensate, you need to lift the front beyond the point where you'll need new UCAs. That's why the General HDs or the Wheelers 5-packs make sense.

Yeah, I live within 20 miles of of two large salt mines, can see one from my house, so thats how the state deals with snow around here...

I just wanna thank you all for the helpfull advice, I finally decided on the HD springs from General and am very happy with them. It's nice to be able to load the truck again.

    Thanks again everyone!

Holy rust and you need a cv boot and rear shocks.

Id say 5100s are set to 2.5"
