Best bet would be to run wheel spacers.
4.5 BS is the most ideal for bigger tires and a lift

What the hell? I haven't seen this one before. I have spindles here for a 2010 and a 2013 and none of them have that.

You have that backwards. If he has 4" BS, 3.5" would move the wheel further out away from the spindle.

Should not be a problem, until you air down. I'm not sure of the purpose of the marks; you can try grinding them down or getting spacers. The thinnest I've see are .9 inches wide.

Maybe it's a 2012 thing I just can't imagine them only doing it those years. I'm gonna check mine again

When I first put my lift on and bigger tires using the stock rims I had this problem. The spindle "knob" touched my tire. I took a grinder to the knob and ground it down flat. Do this or get wheel spacers

That knot is probably part of the casting process.... take a grinder to it if you are worried about clearance.

umm, no it isn't 'part of the casting process' it is an intentional design to strengthen it

casting has been done since 600bc, it's pretty much well thought out by now.

They wouldn't have a sharp edge to strengthen a casting. It will cause a stress riser.

    Google sharp edge on castings.

Edit. I think I was looking at the bracket close to the lip of the rim...

Still the other bump highly doubtful is strengthing.

^^unless you can prove otherwise I stand by what I said. 100% intentional with careful engineering thought.
probably vibration and harmonics related, maybe if hub fails it causes tire to scrub and make a safer stop

who really knows and who really cares? but mistake or oversight, no.

Its not for strength nor harmonics. The shape of it doesnt make sense for either case. I personally think it is a tire width indicator. If you try to put too wide of a tire on the stock rim and it contacts this nub this tells you that the tire will rub somewhere.
