    I just got a quote from my Toyota dealer for the 30,000 service on my 2010. I wanted oil change, tire rotation, inspecion, emission, spark plugs, transmission flush, front and rear differential change, transfer case change and coolant flush. They are charging $678.00. I don't know how to do this myself. Should I do it?

    plus at 30,000 miles should be no reason for a trans flush. thats probably where most of the cost is, that stupid world standard trans fluid is so expensive.

    FWIW, my 2010 2.7L 5sp Manual Trans, 4wd - 30k mile service does not specify either spark plugs or diff changes. So, it is primarily oil (Mobile 1 synth), three filters, grease, torque checks, trans and diff fluid checks, tire rotations and a gazillion point "check". The invoice listed that at $277, but the dealer I use has an "Advantage" plan that discounts services, in this case by $50. To further muddy the true cost of service, PA has both safety and emission inspections, certifications, and digital connection to state capitol fees that add about $75. It's plenty cold in PA now, and I wouldn't want to be rolling around on the cold concrete floor of my unheated garage this month, or any month till close to May. So, I will let the dealer handle the 30/60/90k services, and I'll do the interrim services at 5/10/15/20/25K.
    As luck would have it, one of the gazillion advertised inspection points were the struts and one of mine was found leaking. Unfortunately, they didn't have the strut in stock, but ordered it, and have since completed that swap out under warranty.

    Nothing like a little forced air space heater to warm things up for you. Included free when you figure in the cost savings!

    But what do I know - my concrete floor isn't as cold down here in SC. ;-)

    A little forced air heater could in fact heat the air, and keep my fingers just above numb, but I don't think I could heat the concrete floor above back and butt numbing till Spring. And you are right, I could have saved near $100 on the labor and applied it to a propane tank. But the leaking strut was so minor I probably would not have noticed it for awhile. My luck, till about a week and a half after warranty expired.

    I'm no chick and check out the quote I just received from Reno Toyota for my 30k service
    Preferred= $1,110.42
    "Value"=. $. 986.30
    Minimum=. $. 615.86

    But I am in shock! It's time to get my hands dirty. Is anybody else being charged these kind of prices?

    I was also wondering if I could upgrade my spark plugs so they don't have to be changed every 30k?

    Thanks

    Those are some crazy high quotes & prices.

    I was just looking through my maintenance records. I was charged $232 for my 30K service. I did supply my own oil ($30) & Gear Oil ($60) for Diffs & TCase. I paid $99 for 3 oil changes & tire rotations....so that's really $33 for filter & labor.

    I do my own air filters and they didn't need to be replaced.

    Replace Spark Plugs - $123
    Labor for Diffs & TCase fluid $89
    Disposal Fees - $20
    Oil Change Labor - $33
    Mobil 1 Gear Oil - $60
    Mobli 1 Motor Oil - $30

    Total - $355

    typical dealer bs. $245 is far too much for those services. Some not even necessary. Discount Tire does rotations free for me.

    I had been going to a local tire and service shop (highly recommended by many) for tires and regular maintenance such as oil changes, etc. Last time I was in for tire rotation they noticed I was approaching 30K so they provided me a quote. Nearly $1200! I asked what all that included and why so expensive. Was told that the spark plugs alone where $500. Ah no thank you. Called the dealer where I got the truck and they quoted me around $400 for the same stuff. Lesson...shop around...and I won't be going back to this local place even for oil changes again.
