    Hey Guys,

Just thought I would post my experience with upgrading my brakes from the stock 2001 V-6 4x4 Tacoma X-tra Cab stoppers to late-model 2002 Tundra 4x4 S13WL calipers and rotors. I have plenty of pictures and links to all the parts I used. I wanted to get started with this thread so I would have a place to post. My truck has a 2" lift from Old Man Emu with 2007 FJ Cruiser 17" wheels, so it's not quite stock. With the larger wheels and tires, the braking system felt a little stressed, so I thought upgrading to the Tundra brakes would be a nice update.

Here are the parts with links:
    (1) C9951 - S13WL caliper - Driver side - from AutoZone
    (1) C9950 - S13WL caliper - Passenger side - from AutoZone
    (2) 31267DG - rotors - from AutoZone
    (1) DGC976 - brake pads - from AutoZone
    (1) 1055114 Tacoma to Tundra Upgrade kit - from LCE Performance

I took a few pictures during the disassembly/assembly with notes and those can be found on my Flickr album.

    Hope this helps!

Looks nice! What did you decide to do with the backing plate? I didn't see it installed in the photos. Did you dump it or are you modifying it to fit the larger rotors.

I assume you mean the dust shield? I cut them off. Here's a picture of one of the shields with a cut removed:

I have the full kit from LCE but swapped to EBC green stuff 7000 pads, waiting on the brake lines as they were not shipped with my order... I should have it done next week.

Why the need to for the LCE brakeline kit when all you need are the stainless steel brake lines from wheeler's?

The brake lines from Wheeler's mentioned above has the banjo bolts like the Tacoma calipers. The Tundra calipers are quite different. If you look at the this picture, you can see there's a hard line from the bracket to the caliper.

The kit from LCE, while expensive, has all the necessary parts without any need to modify the banjo bolt connection - something I didn't feel was a safe solution, long term. I didn't want a system as critical as the braking system to be jeopardized in any way.

As a side note, I do have a new, never-installed set of those brake lines from Wheeler's if anyone is interested. :)

I have the 231mm tundra calibers on my taco with the Wheelers SS braided brake hoses and the supplied banjo bolts/washers with no issues or modification. Only mod involved for me was trimming the backing plates a tad to clear the 231mm calibers. This is the best upgrade for the buck!

I use my tacoma for towing a small camper/camping gear or a trailer loaded with 2 large 4x4 atv's, usually headed into the mountains, so this upgrade was a must have for me. The banjo bolts from Wheelers are the correct ones for the tundra calipers. I've read here that some have drilled the tacoma banjo bolts but i didn't like the idea of modifiying banjo bolts.

The differences in the calipers is pretty odd....

    Exactly my experiences 68Dave...

I used the 199mm calipers, remans from Napa, rotors and pads from R1 Concepts. Simple and straight-forward

What has everyone experienced with this upgrade as far as pedal travel? Is it soft or mushy? Does anyone notice that the pedal has increased travel after the upgrade?

Pedal feels about the same to me. Every oil change i clean & adjust the rear brakes so my pedal stays high and firm. I have this upgrade on my black 3rd gen 4runner also. My silver 3rd gen 4runner still has the original brakes on it and the pedal feels the same in regards to pedal travel & firmness. 4runners are more known for warped rotors, that's the main reason i upgraded to the tundra brakes because the rotors are a lot thicker.

This appears to be a different caliper. It is stamped 13WG where the OP is using S13WL. Could this explain why the wheelers lines with their banjo fits yours?

What is the difference between the "G" model and the "L" model calipers?

The first link in my previous post covers the differences between the 13WG and 13WL calipers. It also states that the Wheelers lines will work with either or.

Taken from said thread, "Bottom line is, 13WL is needed for hard line fitting, but if you replace the hard line with flex line, you could use either."

I just finished this conversion myself. Here are some pics and parts info for the stuff I used.

The install was very slick. All the spindle brackets and hard lines bolted up perfect and the stainless lines from LCE have a solid metal ferrule between the line and the fittings that I haven't seen on any other build.

The EBC pads are their newest technology and are pretty sweet. They dust pretty bad though if that matters to you.

    1. LCE Upgrade Kit (stainless hoses, hard lines, brackets) #1055114 $169.95
I think I still have the Toyota OEM labels for the 4 individual parts (2 brackets, 2 hard lines) they sent me. I might post them if I can find them all.

    2. Powdercoated 13WL (2005 Tundra) Calipers from Callahan (via Brake_Overstock on Ebay) $137.87

    3. EBC Extra Duty Pads (ED91657) $201.26 and GD dimpled/slotted Rotors (GD7158) $305.59
I just ordered for the 2005 Tundra but I checked their catalog for the shapes: pad shape #1657 and rotor #7158 which fit the 13WL caliper.
