So right now I'm in a pretty good position as a 16 year old kid. My father is offering to help buy me a 2015 I4 Tacoma because he can get a pretty good deal (0% APR) etc. We both would be using it until I move out and then it would be all mine, I would be making the full payments by then hopefully.

However currently my parents own a 2006 V6 4Runner that I currently drive and which they are willing to give me as well. If I get the Tacoma I plan on keeping it basically forever, I plan on being able to pay out for it by the time I'm age 25.

Should I take the 4Runner from my parents because I'm a new driver or should we buy the Tacoma?

Don't buy a brand new car at the age of 16, hate to say it... it's gonna get dinged a few times more than likely.

You would be making a wiser choice from a financial perspective to stay with the 4Runner. That vehicle could easily get you through college and from there, who knows what is in store. For sure, you don't need a new vehicle at age 16. The 4Runner will probably be less expensive to insure as well.

Thanks guys, I'll probably be taking the 4-Runner.

My dad just wanted to get me something that would last me a long time but I guess I should get some more experience driving in tough situations before I get something new.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
4Runner for sure, you will shit when you see what it costs to insure a new vehicle at your age. Plus you are a kid with a heavy foot I presume, so you want a V6 lol. 4Runners are better built than Tacomas anyway, it will last a very long time and has the 4.0 engine.

I'd take the 4runner. With the I4 you could be wishing you got a V6 and I personally would rather start off with a car that's not as nice, so that if you ever buy a new vehicle it will really feel new. If you drive nothing but new vehicles there's not as much WOW later. Also, a good financial decision.

In my own experience, my first truck was a 2007 I4 6 speed access cab tacoma. I hated learning to drive a manual but finally realized how awesome it was. I asked my parents for my second truck, a 2007 V6 automatic double cab because I wanted more power and justified it by saying it would tow my lawn service equipment better. The V6 is a $4,000 option that I now wish I would not have costed my parents. The I4 is all I needed and I would still have the manual. Not to mention, access cabs look cool and now that I have a double cab, I couldn't ever really go back to an AC just because I'm now used to the room. Save them the money and you will love that 4runner.

Nice that Devin pointed out saving their money. I felt the same.

The 4Runner is paid for. You being 16 don't need a brand new truck, nor should you. Thank them profusely, don't take this costly gift for granted for a minute, and don't abuse it.

You seem to have a good start on that, hopefully you also realize you are fortunate to have been born into such thoughtful and able parents. Congrats.

    Enjoy the ride.

Yeah, you must be in a really good position for your parents to be able to buy a new truck. Again, I would feel much better taking the paid-for vehicle and having them put that toward debt or my college. You seem to have your head on straight though and I'm sure you'll come out fine.

The 4runner is probably the better choice because its free, but I was in the same position as you sort of back in 2011 when I was 16 my parents got me a brand new single cab Tacoma I4. Its 2015 and I am almost 21 now it hasn't had a single problem I didn't fuck it up or anything just know how to drive, you will have the 2015 Tacoma for the next 25 years if you get it now. Its your call really, that single cab Tacoma was and still is the perfect vehicle for someone our age.

Go with the 4Runner.No its not new but its free!It will last!Just be responsible and take care of the maintenance! If you decide on the new truck be responsible as well and take care of it because you don't want to owe money on a new vehicle that's turned into a POS from neglect!Good luck!

I agree go with the 4Runner. It's a much better financial decision at your age and the truck is very nice. Much better than what I drove at 16.

I also owned an 05 4Runner and now have a 2.7 2015 Tacoma 4x4. The 4Runner is a very nice truck that does awesome on and off road. I love them, it will serve you well.
