Hi. I was wondering if anyone has installed any sort of lock for their tailgate and if so, what you did.
I'm not satisfied with how the rear glass of a camper shell is supposed to keep people from opening your tailgate. I want to install something more secure (I'm going to be living out of my truck so "all" my stuff will be in there). The lock can be on the outside or inside -- as in I first unlock the shell window and then unlock the gate by reaching in. I just want to avoid someone from pulling hella hard on the tailgate and get at my things.

Ofcourse they could break the glass, but hoping that would be too noticeable to passersby.

I love my pop n lock. I have the one that ties into the key fob. I believe I ran the wire along the frame rail and inside an existing wiring harness to the B pillar and tied it in there. Super easy install.

I've had the same one on my truck for a few years now. I have it set to unlock only when the passenger door is unlocked. No problems whatsoever.

    Is anyone still using this?

The lock has so many bad reviews and am wondering if the quality has improved in the past few years.

Yup, I have the powered version and it still works the same as when I first installed it. Only thing I have to do is replace the inner tailgate cover so that it doesn't press up against the back of the tailgate handle. When it does this the lock can get stuck so I have to push the handle in while unlocking my doors with my key fob. That inner cover is flimsy.

    I bought it.
I'll report back and see if it looks any better than previous pictures.

I bought one a few months back (idk six or so) it works great. I have had zero issues with it. Use it constantly on trips to keep it and my topper locked when going into stores and stuff.

Is that "TOYOTA" decal on your 02? I got a new tailgate for my 01 and was thinking about putting one of those one. How has yours held up?

I have had the Pop N Lock on a couple of 1st gen Tacos, they are not bad.

Really good. I had ordered from this guy (http://jamesdeancreations.com/logos.htm) but if I had known about @CBoy808 back then, I would've checked with him first. His decals are top notch and I'd rather send my business to a TW member.

I have had my pop a lock on for a couple of months. If someone wanted to break in they would but this is about the only option. The price is high and it is plastic. There must be a better solution........

Does anyone have the manual/non-power version for sale? Wondering if I could use it to mount a backup camera? Would hate to buy a new one just to mess with.

I've had the original since 2006 and admittedly do not lock it much anymore. just keep it lubed and the occasional lock de-icer helps :)
