I'll post pictures when I get it installed. Trying to figure out a way to put it in my dash under the stereo. I just purchased a kenwood Single din deck as well.

I'm sure Phil is interested in this as well since he had a 281 in the Taco.

    Yes.
    Which one?

my VHF/UHF (TM-D700) is on the hood, using a Comet mount.
the APRS antenna is on the passenger side bolted to the truck bed toolbox.
The HF antenna is on the back of the truck bed tool box in the middle.
and the CB antenna is on the drivers side of the truck bed toolbox.

I've been around ham radios my hole life until 10 years ago when my dad passed away. I didn't pay attention to what he had. 10 years has gone by and I am finally trying to get my license.

With that said, I don't know anything about what radio antenna to get. I have a radiO I inherited from a family friend that he was given from my dad, but not sure how to program it.

Growing up I noticed that the antenna was either drilled into the trunk, roof or mag mounted to the window. I was thinking about the mag mount way, but know that's not the best way to do it. Is mounting it to the tailgate area where people with cb antenna's with the BAMF bracket.

    Yes.
http://www.relentlessfabrication.us...inge-CB-aux-mount/p/14437134/category=3368787 --- You might need to drill the hole to be a slightly larger diameter to fit the UHF mount in the next link.... :)

one of those, coupled with something like one of these....

    http://www.amazon.com/Aweek®-Coaxial-Antenna-Extension-Kenwood/dp/B00RBDA270/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1433907028&sr=1-1&keywords=aweek+coax&pebp=1433907028710&perid=1JHG0VG3T4SZ50Z7NJ1T

And then some flavor of VHF or VHF/UHF antenna (depending on what the mobile radio is.)

I have a bed light bar, I have a uhf/vhf antenna mounted to it. For APRS I have a mag mount antenna that spends most of it's time sitting on that bed bar, I move it to the roof when I am going out and plan to use it.

Chipskip, did you bond the Fenders to the truck frame? If so, would you be willing to share some photos of where and how you went about it? Thanks!
Alternately if anyone else here has... I'd love to see photos.

For UHF/VHF I didn't feel I needed to bond anything. When I get around to adding HF, I will bond everything.... hood, fenders, bed, doors, etc.

Check out http://www.k0bg.com More info than anyone person needs.

Message received. :) I've been to K0BG's site. I was specifically hoping for talk about grounding/bonding the Tacoma with the composite beg shenanigans. Sometime soon I'm going to get 25' of 1.5" zinc plated copper braid and a large package of ring terminals and go to town.

Is that a Larsen? Second question, how rigid is the whip? Would it be alright to drive through say a low parking garage with that installed?

I have the 11M antenna through the roof and NMO 2M Larsen on a plate attached to the roof rack. I can grab some better pics if needed.
