I am doing preliminary research and due diligence related to transmission rebuild and the document that is attached references several SSTs (special service tools) for performing various subtasks. One of them, for example, is used to remove an oil seal from the tranny housing (SST 09308-00010) and it ain't exactly cheap. There are others as well.

I am just curious if there are generic alternatives to these or a way to still do the job with more conventional tools?

You'll need various snap-ring pliers, seal/bearing pullers and punches.

If you want to take measurements you'll also need a micrometer, feeler gauges and dial indicator.

The SST part numbers are for factory tools, There has only been a few that we've had to buy at our shop and it was for items unrelated to heavy-line work.

I'd try to rent one if I were you. That's way too much $$ for a one time deal.
