03 auto trans shifter stuck

I've got an 03 Tacoma with an automatic trans. Yesterday I got in the truck and it would not shift out of park. The shifter knob would not press in all the way. I could press the button down & violently shake the shifter and the knob would finally press in & shift. Once out of park it would work normal, but as soon as I put it back in park the same thing. Any ideas?
Is there a cable that needs adjusting?
