so this is random and off topic but uber frustrating...been at it for 2 hours and am no closer to an answer than when I started...

I have a roku stick. I brought it with me on vacation to my beach house. I forgot the damn remote.

When it powers on (starts automatically with the TV) it searches for my home network and then tells me it's not connected. I have the roku app but it only works if both the roku and phone are on the same network. My phone is on my beach house network.

I have downloaded 8 universal remote control apps and none of them would work. They all ask for an IP address of the device, which I would need a remote to click around and find it on the settings.

I opened a case with roku it. They were useless and told me to use the remote. Duh...

I've tried changing the network name here to match my home network to trick the roku but that didn't work either.

Anyone ever experience this and get it to work?

Yeah the stick gives off its own wifi signal that pairs with the remote but I can't tap into that network without the actual remote.

I discovered that my tv is actually "roku ready" which means it senses it plugged in and the TV remote will actually control it. Perfect, right? Nope - the TV remote is a dud and doesn't work at all. The LED doesn't light up and none of the functionality works. I've tried controlling the TV with just the soft buttons on the TV itself but they won't work with the roku. I've already wrapped it all back up and it's ready to go back to the store tomorrow. I'm beside myself frustrated with the whole thing...

Ha - I wish I could even do that. My beach house is cable free so I have to have a device to watch anything!! I'm stuck to my phone only at this point :annoyed:
