Hello all, I am about to change my bank 1 02 sensor and I read all the threads I could find on the forum, but I didn't find a tutorial on the job. My trans is automatic and I'm not clear as to how to take that shift knob off to remove the console, or more importantly, what I might screw up if I don't do it right. Any pearls of wisdom on this job would be greatly appreciated.

I don`t have a automatic so I guessing you need to have access from the top to release the harness so you can unplug the O2 sensor.

I have always been able to unplug mine from underneath.

More problems with the rusted nuts and broken studs.

i recently did this very same repair, not even 3 weeks ago, i used this
    http://www.lieblweb.com/o2replacement.html
and this video, now i think the video shows a automatic, the how to above shows a manual, i had the manual so i had to follow the above to get to the plug and the video to replace the sensor. one tip i learned was, you have to remove the sensor to get the slack to get to the plug on a manual

You can do it from underneath the truck. Thats how I did mine. Pretty simple. Can be a little difficult if you have big hands like me though.

Thanks to all of you for your help. That's exactly what I was in need of, both technical and moral support. :)

Did mine a month or so ago (auto). I was able to get to it from under the truck pretty easily. Use whatever your favorite penetrating solvent is on the nuts and let it sit for a couple hours before you go at it. Mine came off with minimal effort after I hit them with PB a couple times over the course of a couple hours. Pick up some new nuts because yours will be shot more than likely (mine literally crumbled).image.jpg

Thanks Adam. I appreciate the info. By the way what size replacement nuts should I get?

Pretty sure it's 8mm x 1.25. I picked up some stainless steel ones from the local hardware store with some lock washers. I think it ended up being a 13mm wrench to put the new ones on.
