Wanting to lift my 03, just wanting about an inch in the front, was thinking using the 5100 route, what to use in the back? Truck wont be used for hardcore wheeling, just some dirt roads, and small washes, rocks and such. Looking for the best bang for the buck in terms of duribility, reliability and ride quality. Its an 03, so I can only assume the shocks probably need replacing anyways...

I was going to use the 5100 route on my 2nd gen when I had it, how are they when it comes to first gen?

Lots of 1-inch lift options for the rear.
Easiest would be a shackle lift (shackle would be 2" longer than stock for 1" lift)
1" lift block (most guys are against block lifts)
AAL would work, if you can find one that only lifts 1-inch and is the same thickness as stock leaf)
Replacement leaf packs are available (best solution, but most expensive and most work)

can i use a shackle lift with the 5100's in the rear? Do 1st gens get picky about lifting them? Anything i should be concerned about?

And what about the coils? Do I need to worry about them as much as the shock?

Why not just keep the rear stock height and just add better shocks? Lifting the front 1 inch will probably level the truck somewhat or pretty close. Get stage 1 icon :)

5100s set on middle setting should do just fine and level out the truck.

The factory TRD coils (if that's what you have) do not work well in lifted applications. They are a progressive rate spring and any pre-loading for "lift", be it a spacer or multiple step Billi, tends to just collapse the upper "softer" portion of the coil with minimal lift compared to standard liner rate coils. Not to mention that leaves you riding on the higher rate lower portion.

From what I know and have done with my trucks is that a one inch lift in the front will just level the truck and there will be no need for a rear lift of anykind

So if the factory springs on my truck don't work well with lifts, what is an option for a spring that will not give me any lift?

1st gens seem complicated comparing it to my 2nd gen....

Not sure what your budget is but I would look into stage 1 icon that way you can adjust the front to whatever you like. 1-3 inches I believe they're preset to give you about 2 inches of lift to level the truck. You'd probably have a much smoother ride also with the upgrade.
