    UPDATE September 4th 2017

    - 15 minute switch is no longer offered as an option with the Left of Steering kit.

    - Due to a number of factors such as increased shipping costs, supplies costs & a major shortage of time to work on these kits the prices have been increased (new prices are now listed in this post). Although I didn't want to increase the costs, I simply don't have much spare time to make these kits anymore and my costs have gone up over the last few years. Any orders placed prior to this update will run at the old pricing.

    Hey Guys,

First off... TLDR Cliff-notes can be found at the bottom of this post

As some of you may know and many of you probably don't, I've been working on putting together a plug and play kit for heated mirrors in 2nd gen tacomas. If I've already lost ya then there is some great information to be found in a thread Benson X created here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oem-heated-mirrors-diy-mod.193528/

Living in an area that has a cold and long winter, I was a bit disappointed to find out that my favourite vehicle not only doesn't come stock with heated mirrors, but isn't even an upgrade option :facepalm:Needless to say I was glad when I found out there is a way to add them on. Throughout the process of installing my heated mirror setup I came to realize that even though the wiring is pretty straight forward, it took more time to make all of the wiring connections then it took to do the rest of the install, and that is for someone who is confident with electrical work. I also noticed throughout the thread that there were a number of people who seemed interested in this mod, but didn't proceed with it because they weren't comfortable with doing the electrical work.

The kit I've put together consists of:
    1) Genuine Toyota Heated Mirrors
    2) Genuine Toyota Heated Mirrors Switch
    3) Custom Wiring Harness With a Built in Relay
    4) Specialty Timer Relay on some kit options

I started with a few of these kits for friends and a couple of local sales. Each time I made minor tweaks to the harness making it easier to install, and so that less and less electrical knowledge was needed from the person doing the install. The end result and harness for sale is that it can now be installed by someone who has ZERO electrical skills. Every connection that could be made is already pre-wired within the harness.

Below are a few pictures of completed kits:

Left of Steering Kit (Pictured Below)

Under The AC Kit (Pictured Below)

    Switch Under Climate Controls
    5, 10, 15 or 20 minute timer options
Available in amber or green illumination
*** Switch may require you to remove a raised ledge in order to slip into the keyed switch blank - See post #302 for more information***
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...thread-pic-heavy.377840/page-16#post-10507687
    Price:
    $450 USD via PayPal

Mirror Adjust Switch Kit (Pictured Below) *NEW*

    Mirror Adjust Switch

    5, 10, 15 or 20 minute timer options
Available in amber or green illumination (if you are upgrading to an illuminated switch)

    Price:

    - Upgrade to an illuminated switch for an extra $45
** Illumination will be wired to come on with headlights as default unless you ask for the switch to illuminate while the mirrors are heating**

    Mirror Adjustment Kit.jpg

    image.jpg

    Q) I already have mirrors with heating strips, can I buy a kit without mirrors?
    A) Yes, any kit without mirrors will have $110 subtracted from the total

    Q) Can I order a kit if I don't have a Tacoma World account?
    A) Sure just send an email to TacoMirrors@hotmail.com

    Q) Heated Mirrors Rock!!!
    A) Damn straight they do

    Q) Where are the install instructions?
    A) At the very bottom of the first post in this thread. There is a file for each kit type that can be downloaded and printed

    Q) How much time do you recommend for the timer?
    A) 5 minutes is usually adequate for areas that get light frost. If you see heavy frosts then you may want to consider a 10 or 15 minute timer (10 not available on Left of Steering kits)

    Q) I'm Canadian can I pay in Canadian funds rather than USD
    A) I can convert the total to CAD, I can do E Transfer, cash or cheque

    Q) How much for shipping to xxxxx
    A) Free tracked shipping

    Q) I don't know if I should get an amber or green switch
    A) Toyota used amber switches for 2005-2011 and then switched to green for 2012-2015. It never hurts to turn on your headlights and double check what colour your other switches are though.

    New Kit Option Now Available!
Ran out of switch blanks but want to add heated mirrors? This kit is the solution! Rather than taking up a valuable switch location this new option will swap out your existing mirror adjustment switch with one capable of triggering your heated mirrors.

    image.jpgimage.jpg

Every order goes through a bench test that verifies functionality of the switch, relay and the harness itself to ensure that no units are DOA.

    image.jpg
    Switch Testing.jpg

The wiring is a true pure stranded copper rather than cheaper options such as copper clad aluminum. The wire gauge used has a huge safety margin, could handle 5x the amperage that is produced by these mirrors.

    image.jpg

The harness is built using only high quality terminals rather than inferior products that will only lead to problems down the road.

    image.jpgimage.jpg

Each harness built with the right tools for the job, ensuring all connections are solid and trouble free.

    image.jpg

    Switch Illumination

A few of you have asked me questions about the illumination of these switches. These aren't great pictures and probably would have been better to not have it pitch black, but they should let you know the difference between amber & green switches.

Below is what they look like when illuminated (at night with headlights on) but without the mirrors actively heating.

    image.jpg

And below a picture showing the heated mirrors switch colour matched to other switches in the dash.

    image.jpg

Payment is via Check if post count is higher than 100 or US Bank Draft such as cashiers / tellers check if post count is less than 100. I can also accept PayPal if covering the fees (price difference noted in prices). Canadian's also have the option to pay via Etransfer at a converted rate.

    Pricing includes:

    - Genuine Toyota Heated Mirrors
    - Genuine Toyota Heated Mirrors Switch (you select option you want)
    - Custom Wiring Harness With a Built in Relay
    - Tracked shipping

US Customers: The switch and harness will ship from Canada, however the mirrors will be shipped directly to you from Toyota. To me it made no sense to have the mirrors shipped to Canada only to turn around and ship them right back to the US. doing it this way keeps the shipping costs down. Quoted prices includes tracked shipping on everything!

Canadian Customers: The complete kit including mirrors will be sent in one shipment. Quoted prices includes tracked shipping on everything!

    Switch Options:

    image.jpg

    Left to right

    - left of steering 5 minute switch
    - left of steering 15 minute switch (no longer offered)
    - Under AC green switch
    - Under AC amber switch

    ***Cliff-notes***

    - plug and play heated mirrors kit is available
    - no electrical knowledge needed, will be an easy install
    - Custom wire harness has all electrical connections pre-done, saves a lot of time during install
    - Drop a line in this thread if you would like to get a kit

To order I need to know 4 pieces of information:

    1) Switch position (left of steering, under AC or Mirror Adjust)
    2) How many minutes (left of steering 5 / Under AC & Mirror Adjust 5, 10, 15 or 20)
    3) Colour (green or amber)
    4) Canada or US

Although many people have already successfully done this modification, as is the case with any modification done to your vehicle this is install at your own risk. While I have made every effort to ensure the functionality of this kit, including fully cycling it through a bench test, I am not installing this into your vehicle, I can accept no responsibility for any damages that may result from the installation of a heated mirrors kit. If you are not comfortable with these terms please do not order the kit.

Up2NoGood sent me his prototype harness. He warned me that it wasn't as polished as the final product so he was selling it at a discount. It's very well put together and though I haven't installed it yet (need to pick up mirrors and a switch), I am impressed. Should save me a ton of time that I would have spent putting together my own.

^^^^^^ me as well. Florida may not be cold but damn my mirrors get dew almost EVERY morning. So sick of having a shop towel in my door panel to wipe the mirrors. Would love someone to get this and post up a "build" before I dive in.

    Stock for now...
Definitely interested . What about an option for turn signal/puddle type mirrors that at least look stock ? There are some aftermarket units that are pretty good quality , could these harnesses and controllers be made to work ?

Gotta drive on the 400 series (GTA) during freezing rain to curse at Toyota for not even making those available for the Tacoma!

Maybe not as cool as your idea of refrigerated mirrors lol. Should be handy in winter though

    Awesome thanks!

Do you guys figure you would be interested in a 5 minute time cycle or 15 minutes. My thoughts are 5 minutes is probably adequate for dew or very light frost whereas 15 minutes is probably best for the colder climates. The 5 minute switches take a bit longer to get in stock but I will try to keep a few on hand.

    Consider yourself added!

It's possible but would likely require some alterations. I know about the mirrors you are talking about and the heating function would work the same (one lead of mirror grounded and the other being supplied with 12v) but I haven't looked at them in person. The harness would not make the puddle lights work but my understanding is those get tapped into the dome light circuit. If it is something you are interested in I know member SkyGear has done a nice write up on that exact mod.

Right on... It will be here and ready when you are

Agreed it's pretty crazy this feature got overlooked on the tacomas

No instructions up yet, but it is something I am working on. The good news is that it really does become a basic install with this harness. Just a matter of running the wire, some zip ties and hooking up a few connections like ground points and the mirror connections. All of those will have the terminals on the end of the wires for ya.

Would there be an option for an aftermarket switch like OTRATTW? I have no room in the factory locations anymore.

    From left to right...

5 minute timer left of steering wheel
15 minute timer left of steering wheel
    Amber illumination under AC
    Green illumination under AC

All switches illuminate in amber at the top rectangle when on. The switch illumination from having the headlights turned on is the bottom portion of the switch. For the left of the steering wheel switches it is a matter of switching the bulb for amber or green depending on what you want. The switches under the AC controls do not have bulbs that can be changed... Two different switches/part numbers for the two different colour options.

I looked into providing the air on board switches as an option but they came with some hurdles.
    1) they are LED so could not be dimmed properly like the toyota switches
    2) they are not designed in such a way that they would illuminate while on. To make them do so I would need to open the switch and do some modifications
    3) between needing to modify the switch and the fact they would have required a relay with a built in timer, going with that option would have actually been a bit more cost then going with a genuine toyota switch
