Every time I mess with the special TRD lug nuts or wheel locks, I feel like my lug keys are gonna break. Would like to change them to something that uses standard sockets. It's for the special trd aluminum wheels that came with the truck. I have no idea if these wheels need any special consideration.

Would prefer if the new replacement lug's were also aluminum, to prevent them from fusing to my wheels.

I absolutely hate these things!!! They look great but there extremely inconvenient.

Nope. Had a Big O special order a bunch of different lug nuts trying to find the right stuff and none of them fit. Toyota was a big bag of ass when they made those wheels and lug nuts. Might as well just buy another set for $130 or whatever they run now

I have gorilla spline drive lugs on mine, been working fine. Gorilla locking lugs do not fit, they are too tight and you'll mess up your wheels.

Ouch, I was afraid of that. That's the last time I buy special editions of anything lol! Seriously considering buying new wheels. I hate those little buggers that much. :infantry: :bananadead:

Thanks! I think that will do for now. Still not loving splined anything, but atleast Gorilla brand seems more readily available then oem trd stuff. Do you by any chance have a link to the exact one that fit your wheels?

I found this one... but it's maid out of steel. Don't know if this will galvanize (corrode) on my aluminum wheels.

I'll go check to see which ones I have. For what it's worth I've had mine on for years and there's no corrosion at all. As long as your don't have bare metal on metal, you won't have corrosion. Mine have the black finish, maybe those last longer?

If you use a torque wrench (I'd say 82 foot lbs on lugs)

    and

if you check torque once a week for four weeks in a row and discover no issues or lugs nuts backing out

then anti-seize is OK to use on lug nuts.

I mean...it's OK to use but technically lubing lugs is never gonna be recommended by manufacturer
because you do need to follow up and make sure torque is correct, and quadruple check it to ensure
they are not misbehaving. anyhow, anti-seize make lug and wheel removal a total breeze later on

I had some chrome splined lug nuts from Pep Boys on my Moto Metal wheels and they rusted after the chrome flaked off. Looked like crap. I have the OEM lug nuts with the TRD wheels now and have no complaints. Maybe try the Gorilla lugs and see if they work out for you.

I thought the wheel torque was 97ft lbs? Maybe that's on the Tundra?

The OEM lug nuts are made by McGard and they are just their standard set of spline drive lugs. You pay a bunch more for the TRD logo.

I always thought it was 85 ft/lbs? Don't matter anyways, every time I take my truck to get it serviced in the dealer, they over torque them. Will definitely get some gorilla lugs. It's not so much that I dislike the splined lugs that came with the wheels. Its just the tool you have to use to remove them, have to be maid extremely thin in order to fit properly. This compromises the tool's strength.

I guess it is 82/85 ft/lbs. I'll start torquing them at that. I have the OEM splined lugs nuts and locks because the member I bought my wheels from gave them to me.

McGard sells reduced-head dia conical seat lugnuts with the normal hex pattern. Comes in black chrome, too. I use them in my Konig wheels.

Not to resurrect this thread from the dead, but do you need special lugs for these TRD wheels? About to order a set from the stealership and was planning on using my OEM lugs from my sport.

I got a set of 5 for my trd bead locks from auto zone. only problem is that they only come in a set of 20 not 24. Still have to buy 4 more.

    What size lugs?

I would use that opportunity to purchase a set of 4 keyed lugs. I have trust issues and would hate to walk out and find my truck on blocks and waving bye bye to a set of $2k wheels and tires.
