The only one in North America, maybe? ALL Tacomas have 'AUTO LSD' and TRAC (since 2009), which are electronic/ABS Brake systems. ALL Tacomas since 2009 have open differentials*, unless it was some special order never mentioned here before or an after market addition.
*The Off Road has a locker, which is not 'open', but only when activated.

Cheap was meant to be I'm not about to spend thousands on suspension, wheels, etc for what is more of a DD than an OR machine. There also the time-value of money to think about which is the higher price for me right now. I think I'm going to probably order the gray OR and then decide on the rims later if I want. Might try and talk the dealer into something but we'll see how it goes.

I did just test drive the Colorado's, actually a pretty nice truck. I was pretty shocked at it overall. I like Tacoma's better but I must say, Chevy did a decent job out of the gate on that truck.

Give the Colorado some time for the damage reports to begin. I guarantee you it will not hold up to the abuse that a Tacoma will take and keep on driving.

Go online and shop. www.kbb.com and several other websites will locate vehicles for you. Plug in the distance you are willing to travel, 50, 75, 150 miles etc. and all listings available show up. Easiest way I've found to buy. You negotiate via e-mail and don't have to fool with dealer BS. You negotiate with a dozen dealers at the same time from home then buy the best deal. Dealers know this and don't try to play as many games since it is so easy to "walk out" on them.

The Tacoma is made in North America: Texas and Baja California (Mexico).

Thanks for the info on that, I had assumed they just did that stuff right there at the dealer or possibly through the distributor guys (or whatever they're called). I've definitely done my HW on this one, I used TrueCar last time and it helped me get a good deal. I'm going to have to order the one I want which does leave me a little less negotiating space I think but if its not for the right price I can go somewhere else. Going to make a few other calls to the dealers a little further out today too and see what prices they can give me to see if any are willing to go a bit lower or throw something else in.

I agree, also part of the reason I'm stick with Toyota. I was just saying it is a nice truck, they did a better job out of the gate than I had anticipated. I had to run down all the options though and since last time I bought the Colorado wasn't being produced, I had to be thorough this time and take it out.

So I've talked with 3 dealers about ordering a truck. 1 says I can't even order 2015's any more, they're only making 2016's for the September release, the second won't give me any quotes on the features I want, about ready be done with him, the third says I can get everything but the wheels and wants about 4k more than any of the pricing points I've found online in the research. God I hate buying cars.

Thanks, I never heard that term for anything other than a harbor for ships or a place to plug in a cable! Where are these ports located for the Baja and Texas built Tacomas? Here in San Diego we see car carriers bringing 4 door Tacomas north from Baja on the highway.

It's probably just a yard somewhere that is known as a port. A lot of states have Ports of Entry at the boarders with surrounding states. I've noticed this a lot driving from Texas to Colorado, they're at most of the state boarders and I think a lot of it has to do with inspecting commercial and agricultural trucks.

Exactly, on the coast it is actually a port. I have to assume, and confirmed to a degree by what you said, its cheaper to ship cars to the coastal cities not close the factories in Baja and Texas on ships and barges.

i have a 2015 SR5 4X4 DCSB with the TSS package and i love it. i have A-TRAC and LSD. i dont see why youd want to get a TRD offroad unless you plan on keeping it stock forever.. i figured "hell, im going to swap out the suspension, wheels, and tires anyways, so why worry about the TRDOR package". and ive never needed a rear locker in my life. honestly, the only time youd EVER need a rear locker is on a two wheel drive in my opinion...and i live in the swamp at that. i know all about the mud and not once will i EVER need a "locking rear differential" man thats just airplane parts.
i say get the SR5 TSS UNLESS you're going through a midlife crisis and plan on keeping it stock.

    ^^just my opinion^^

I appreciate that viewpoint, and that's actually where I'm at. Not super huge on changing out a lot of stuff. I've needed a locking diff either but I guess you never need it until that one time you do? Haha. I'm trying to get an OR right now from the dealer but dealing with a bunch of their crap. They found a new one that had what I wanted but said the only one was in another city and they bring it here. I said awesome and asked a bunch of questions, some they didn't fully answer (red flag #1). Signed the basic forms today and put down a deposit. Got a message 2 hours later saying the truck would actually have close to 500miles on it when it got here since it has been driven from one dealer to another (across the state) and would have to be driven back here (across the state again). I said that's not really new any more, I have no idea what some stupid 16 yo kid did to it on the drive here, either they dropped the price, found me a new one, or I walked away. Miraculously, even after they said there were no others coming in, one is getting delivered later this week and I should have it next week, minus a few "free" features they were going to add to the 500mi truck. I said fine, I didn't want that crap anyway and to just give me the damn truck we agreed on!

Sorry about that rant, just getting frustrated with dealers. It's obvious why they get a bad rep now.

The "port" for our area is in Jacksonville, FL and trucks from the assembly plant in San Antonia, TX are shipped by rail to Jacksonville. They receive some options and checkpoints are done then the trucks are delivered by auto transporter to the dealers.

The A-TRAC is a factory system that requires a hydraulic brake booster, only on the Off Road... all other Tacomas have a vacuum brake booster. So, I am guessing they took an Off Road from the factory and added TSS stuff? What is the 'LSD' you have? Can't be in the diff like on the 2005-2008 Sports TRDs, because you would have a locker and A-TRAC (both come together on the Off Road TRD)... IF you really do have A-TRAC. All Tacomas since 2009 have the AUTO LSD/TRAC system. Photos please of the button and your brake booster under the hood... very curious!!
