This is my first post on here, although I get a lot of help by searching through other peoples post. My question is (and I think I know the answer to it)..

I was changing my oil and putting the little drain plug back on the spill pan for the oil filter, and I dropped it. I am assuming this is a non-factor, other than I need to remember this the next time I change my oil, or get a replacement between now and then. Basically I just want to confirm that this only aids in changing oil filters and doesn't affect the functioning of the truck. Thanks.

That's what I thought, but it was dark out and I couldn't see under the hood very well. Thanks

My rubber plug has been gone since maybe my fourth oil change (#19 coming up).

I don't have one either. Probably disappeared at the first dealer oil change. I don't need it.

You can probably find something that will work at auto zone or advanced. They sell little packages of different-sized small rubber caps in the "HELP" section...

My 14 has one. Looks to me nothing more than a. Vacuum cap for a manifold. Maybe 50 cents at a part store.

Mine was missing after oil change at dealer, I asked them about it and they acted like they didn't know what i was referring to. Local hardware store had rubber screw protector for 41 cents, works fine. I now do my own oil changes.

I just ran a 3/8"hose down from the nipple to near my pan drain plug. Now when I change my oil the filter spill drains down to my collector pan for easy clean up.
