READ THIS FIRST: Alright to start things off, if you're just going to tell me that stock is the best, just leave the post. I know what I like and I've had my fair share of hate for putting a muffler on my truck, so I'd appreciate it if you left the negativity at away from the keyboard.

I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my 06 Tacoma 4.0 Liter. Being a new member, I'm browsing everyone's builds and I see all types of Tacos with rear exit dual exhaust. I want to get one on my Taco. All I plan to do is get a single in, dual out, like many of my fellow taco owners. I went to a local shop recommended to me by my uncle who's well educated on trucks. I talked to a mechanic telling him what I want. He told me he could get me a muffler, new piping, tips, and installation for about $350. This sounds like a steal to me. The muffler is gonna run about $90, tips maybe $50, labor and piping will be around $200. So I'm ready to pull the trigger and then I mention my truck is a Tacoma.... He said he couldn't do it because of how the rear suspension is set up and I think he mentioned something about brake lines, but I don't remember fully. He said he didn't feel comfortable doing the work and it could be dangerous potentially, so I walked out a sad kid because I see picture on TW of guys/gals with dual rear exhaust. I also see people say the spare tire may be inaccessible and I don't care about that. I want to secure my spare in the bed.

My questions to TW are: How did you guys get a shop to do your dual exhaust? Anything that could possibly be bad about a dual exit setup? Is the price he told me a good deal? Sounds good to me considering when I put my 40 series on it was almost $300 after labor. Let me know what you guys are running on your Tacos too!

Here in San Antonio, i had a local shop do it for 280$ without the tips. So thats a great deal. They didn't have any problems doing it the same exact way you described.. one out and dual in the back, right behind each rear tire! I did a 40 series also and loved the sound. that was on my 2009 TRD sport. Never got the tips but i ended up doing a high heat black paint and painted it all the way back to engine.!

MagnFlow offers a single/dual but it's pricey. I think Flowmaster does too. You already have the muff so you're just looking for someone to do the work. I've heard about spare tire & brake line issues. I'd say go ahead and move the tire so the shop guys aren't so intimidated with the workspace. There's a lot of room under there when the spare is removed.
