I was driving and all of a sudden my dashboard lights went out. It wasn't a fuse so i brought it to my mechanic and he said its the dashboard light knob. Is that true? or is it the bulb. The ac lights went out too so I am not sure what it is.

Are you running lights also out? If so, then it's the fuse. Check the box.

The AC lights are controlled by the knob as well. Found this out by accident. I usually never mess with it, but after giving the truck a good detailing one day, I head out to drive to work the next morning (still dark) and none of my lights were working except for the stereo. I thought i broke something, got some armorall somewhere and caused a short or something stupid. I pull over and try to diagnose and nothing- no fuses burnt. The old "turn it off and turn it back on" didn't work. So I said screw it and kept driving. Later on that day, I realized that while cleaning my dash, I rolled the knob all the way down an dimmed my lights off. So naturally I felt stupid.
Anyway- long story just to say, yes- it could be the knob. I'd start with the cheapest fix possible and work my way up from there.

It's not a fuse checked every fuse there is for the lights. Might have to replace the knob..

it could be the dimmer knob or the actual light switch in the steering wheel, sounds like those two are the most likely places to test for power issues in and out to see if they are bad
