UltraGauge and its user friendliness

As I mentioned in previous threads, I will be towing my loaded enclosed 6x12 v nose trailer and want to keep an eye on the tranny temp. As such, I am looking at purchasing the UG MX1.3, however I am reading it is only to be used by advanced users - which I am not.

Two questions I have:

1- Just to be 100%, the MX1.3 model is capable of reading and displaying trans temp?
2- How difficult is it to use?

Yes, the MX version is capable of displaying trans temp,(auto trans) but must be programmed by the user, (unless UG has made a change to their current production). Programming is not rocket science and the program codes have been listed on this forum multiple times (do a search). How difficult to use .... if you can figure out the programming sequences, at the end of that process you will probably be very comfortable with how to use it. No offense, but, I'm 65 and I figured it out! LOL

Just throwing this out there... Scanguage says it shows tranny temp also, and has instructions on their site on how to add it.

I was going back and fourth between the two (scan or ultra) for like a month and just ordered the Scan because it can color match my dash (ultra is only a blue screen), and the buttons are on the front which i think will make it easier to use. It also will fit nicely on top of the rear view mirror, ultra may or may not fit up there. Also the Scan has the cable coming out the back and the Ultra comes out the side so i think the scan will look nicer. Lastly, it seems like Scanguage is a much bigger company and i fear that if Ultraguage went out of business i might not have any future support for my product and/or make it hard to sell in the future.

Just got my UG MX 1.3 pre-programmed for Tacoma, and to answer your questions, Yes, it shows trans temp. For my 2015 I had to modify the program slightly but it's easy to do and ships with the instructions.

 

Appreciate the feedback! I ended up ordering UG MX1.3 for nothing more than a bigger screen since both are capable of displaying same parameters. As far as mounting, I am thinking hard wiring it on top of rearview mirror.

 

I have mine in that location. I plugged it into the OBDII, ran it inside the door weatherstripping, up the a pillar, and into the headliner. Easy peasy.

I opted for the performance model of the UG....knowing what i know now, should've gone with the MX 1.3 so i could do trans temp

 

Is that the big difference btwn the two? I was looking for an UltraGauge but I don't think I need the trans temp.

 

There are three models.

Classic
Performance 1.2v
MX 1.3v

Classic is bare bones, all three models do everything that the classic does.

Performance has some extra "real time" diagnostics tests and a performance page with 0-30mph, 0-60, 0-100, 1/8th mile time, 1/4mile time and so on.

The MX is the programable one, it can be programmed for extra features like the trans temp

 

Just wanted to say that i just got my Scanguage (i was talking sh*t about Ultra in this thread earlier) and am almost immediately wishing i got an Ultra. The first thing i thought after i installed it was "man it would be cool if i had more than 4 guages displayed". Then i learned that the trip timer doesnt show you trip time in minutes, it shows it in tenths of an hour! what good is that.... so i may be selling it and getting an Ultra.

Hey AR15AR10 how did you mount yours like that? Thats where ill put mine if i get one...

 

I recently purchased a blue driver from Amazon. Currently have a scan gauge in my truck but the screen is shot. Blue driver works on any smart phone and I have it in my Subaru. Lots of good stuff. Works with Bluetooth so no cables. Yet another reason I can't wait to get my truck back(frame) to see what it can do.

 

Suction cup mount.

People talk shit about the suction cup mount but over the last two years. Its only come loose 3-4 times and it was while the vehicle was PARKED. Extreme heat (+120* inside the truck) will make it come loose sometimes....and anything lower than about 10* can make it come loose

I love it there. Eventually i'd like to velcro mount it to my over head console and get a rearview mirror riser bracket

 

USPS dropped off the unit today. Looks very sleek and low profile. Can't wait to connect it...
