    I recently budgeted $1k for my taco... and I am curious what others would do. Let me know what you would spend the cash on.

    Thanks!

    This is the taco to be upgraded... =)
    (Minus the nerf bars, and I have already added fog lights)

    I'm building a custom nav unit, with one of these;
    http://www.inforcecomputing.com/products/single-board-computers/6540-single-board-computer-sbc

    and one of these;
    http://www.chalk-elec.com/?page_id=...itive-multi-touch/p/21750207/category=3094861

    and one of these;
    https://www.silabs.com/Support Documents/TechnicalDocs/Si4736-37-38-39-C40.pdf

    I haven't picked an amp yet, but going for a "fits in the dashboard" type around 50Wx4 (I'm not interested in having my brain liquefy inside my skull... just drive the factory speakers), probably something like http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020XC1410/Clarion-XC1410.html?tp=35782

    Plus various switches, connectors, and so-forth, and a ton of computer engineering and programming knowledge. This project is... not entirely possible... for a casual car radio changer though, and is probably more about the hobby than about the end result. There are a huge number of considerations with the communications protocols between the AMFMWB chip and the SBC (i2c for control, i2s for sound), differing voltages between the two ends, connecting and dealing with steering wheel buttons (hint: I'm going custom on that too, with a resistor network feeding gpio pins on the SBC). Also a lot of programming considerations, like what exactly it takes to make an Android device into a bluetooth HFP client. Feeding the i2s input to the WCD, cutting off the i2s input when a call comes in on the HFP client, etc.

    A topper for the back is worth its weight in gold for sleeping in, having a place to lock gear and a good way to keep things dry.

    Rock sliders, and then 5100's and an AAL for a lift if there's enough left over.
