I guess the question is at what RPM the motor makes that peak 270hp. If it peaks at 5800rpm one can guesstimate peak torque will be about 280. If peak HP is at 6100rpm the guesstimate for peak torque goes down to about 268. If peak HP is at 6500rpm the guesstimate for peak torque goes down to about 250 lbs.

I'm basing the torque guesstimates on typical Toyota V6 torque curves where torque drops to about 85-90% of peak as the motors get up near redline. I used 87% for the guesstimates:

    280torque x .87 x 5800rpm / 5252 = 269 hp.
    268torque x .87 x 6100rpm / 5252 = 271 hp.
    250torque x .87 x 6500rpm / 5252 = 269 hp.

270hp peak is fine with me if it comes at a low redline, the lower the redline probably the higher the peak torque. If Toyota can do this I think that would satisfy everybody:

    300torque x .87 x 5500rpm / 5252 = 273 hp.

Screw horsepower. Torque is what moves you quickly. Horsepower just keeps you moving. Torque is exactly what these giant pigs need and 300 is great.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you can carry the wall.

Threads like this are why the "Thread for not bitching about the 2016" is so important to this board. Sounds like some of you should just buy a Tundra.

    ITS WAY TOO BIG.

    CRAPPY MILEAGE.

    HARD TO PARK.

HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR WINDOW STICKER PRICES?!

All things bitched about over both the Tacoma and Tundra. Funny, that. Some people just want to piss and moan.

Screw the gas engines I wish Toyota would make the diesel available here. A friend has the diesel Hilux in Australia and gets 28mpg.

You don't know what the torque spec will be. Please stop acting like you do.

I'll wait till the official specs come out from Toyota as far as we know 270 HP could be a mistake posted on the Web page.

but but he is right you know, new engine will not beat old 1GR in Torque (278 lb·ft (377 N·m) at 3700 rpm)
    Even if you "didn't know"
Its pretty obvious from Towing and HP that will not happen.

It won't beat the old engine in torque but yet the tow Rating went up.
I will wait for the official specs instead of listen to your cynical posts.

    No, no, no

As discussed many times before, you are wrong. Peak HP is not a reflection of peak or low end torque; and if it were, generally engines with better low end torque specs have lower peak HP so your argument is actually working against your point. You are proving yourself wrong in the endless smear campaign based off of the unconfirmed 270HP.

And as mentioned before, the engine is not the governing limitation on towing.

What's all the bitching about 270hp I have a 1st gen 4 banger and am perfectly content with the 150hp and 2Ft-lbs (actually 177 but who's counting) of tq it puts out (on a good day).

Tow rating went up because the gears new truck is using, not because the engine.
Install 4.30 gears on stock 1GR and you going to rip hitch off the frame...

Is the 4.3 going into the V6 or the 4 Cylinder, as I recall they said the is going to be a 3.9 ratio and a 4.3 ratio. I am assuming if that is correct that the 4.3 ratio will be in the 4 cylinder.
If you hate the new Tacoma so much why do you show so much interest in it?
