I've located a 2004 Tacoma double cab V6 4x4 SR5 that I'd like to purchase. But before I do that I'm going to have it inspected at a shop. What specific things should I make sure the shop takes a look at? I know the frame rust issue is a must.

more then looking for frame rust you need to run the vin at a dealer to be sure it has been inspected and or coated if needed so your frame warranty is still good on it. if it wasn't inspected and coated by Toyota you have no frame warranty on it and what looks good today might be full of holes in a year or two.

there have been several posts on here lately by people buying trucks only to find out they don't have and cant get the frame warranty because the previous owners never brought it in for the coating

You also need to find a shop the works mostly with Toyota`s The average shop can be quite clueless

I find buying a new vehicle is like buying a Horse start at the ground and work up .

If it passes the visual check take it for a ride see if it moves smooth and is not lame on any of the corners.
