Long story short, I had a car that was involved in an accident. Car was totaled out, but I managed to buy it back dirt cheap. Got it back with no bumper, with all damage revealed. My plans are to fix what I can, have it inspected, and road worthy again. I want to keep the car for myself, since resale value is gone now (good cars are hard to find anyway). After the accident, the car was still driving around just fine. :D

Damage doesn't look too bad. It seems the corner pocket is the only part pushed in. Perhaps a couple inches at most. Airbags were not deployed. I have played with Bondo, paint, replacing parts, etc... before. Never played around with bending metal back straight.

    My dilemma:

I like DIY, I like cheap. Can a sliding hammer work for something like this? 10lb or 15lb, whatever "Heavy Duty Heat Treated Sliding Hammer" I can find online. :) There are holes in the metal I can use to pull it back. It's part of the unibody, so I can't really replace the parts. Is there any better method to pulling this back out? Guy at work said tie it to a tree, and drive in reverse. :homer: That method doesn't appeal to me at all for obvious reasons.

Or do I fork over more money and tow it to a body shop? I haven't gotten a quote from them yet (only fixing the bent pocket). I just know labor costs quite a lot, and the hassle of renting the tow dolly from Uhaul is a pain because I also have to borrow or rent another truck that can tow. Since U-Haul wont let me try to tow with my Tacoma. :(

This is the first time with bending metal for repair. It doesn't have to be perfect, but has to pass a Georgia Salvage Inspection. Also, any tips for the inspection? I know I need parts list (VIN from parts car), pictures, costs, and I have to tow it to the inspection place.

Any input is appreciated! I'd like to get this car back on the road if I can. :fingerscrossed:
