Hey everybody, awesome forum! I've spent like 8 hours here since I found it a few days ago.

I'm getting a Double Cab TRD Sport in the next couple weeks. I can't wait! This will be my first truck ever. I've had a 1st gen Prius since '03 and I cannot wait to take the step up.

I am really looking forward to the extra space and power and just the all around ability to do more.

However, I've run into a little speed bump. After going through some of the picture threads and all I pretty much decided I want the Magnetic Gray short bed. I hadn't even considered a long bed since they don't let you choose LB when building a DC at toyota.com and it just seemed all around that the SB was standard. So I was going to get an SB with a bed extender.

Well today I found out the only MGM SB with the package and everything I want is going to take weeks to get here, but my local dealer just traded with another dealership today for the same truck with a long bed.

Now, after going through the short bed vs. long bed thread it seems like I'm probably a little more suited to a short bed. I live in an urban/suburban area, lots of tighter parking lots etc; I don't have a real need to haul a lot of stuff (though I could at any moment), I like the sporty look. However, I'm not doing any intense off roading...yet, , the long bed is still pretty sweet, I could sleep in it way easier when I go camping, I can fit that much more stuff in it, no need for bed extender, and the long bed is available in the color and package I want.

Before this gets any longer, cliff notes, I'm pretty much split on SB/LB 50/50, maybe 55/45 and now I'm questioning my color choice after looking at more of the awesome pics people have on here, MGM, Black, Pyrite and Silver are my contenders.

Anyone want to try and nudge me in any directions?

Thanks guys I look forward to using this site a lot.

    Welcome to the forum!

You're better off getting the LB and be happy...than not get it and wish you did. :D

Sounds like you're on the right track and probably can't make a wrong decision. Personally I'd wait to get the truck I want rather than take what the dealer has now. The LBs are the best of both worlds but its a friggin wicked long truck.

i personally dont like the way the longbeds look, and i never haul that much stuff around that i need that much more room... i always say, if it dont fit, force it :)

as far as your color dilemma, i choose none of the above...go with SWB!!! SWB FTW!

Get exactly what you want. If you live in Oakland dealers should have what you want and should get it quick. The plant is down the street from you. My dealer had a white one when I was first there just looking and when I went back to test drive the silver...the white one i was expecting in a few days showed up. I went in at the costco price which is 500 above invoice. I bought the truck for invoice and got exactly what I wanted. I would have waited. I have no regrets on the truck...but again I researched for about a year before deciding what I really wanted. I started off wanting an access cab..then DC LB, and now I have the DC SB 4x4 TRD Off Road in Super White. Good luck.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for all the fast and helpful responses and the warm welcome.

I know, I have to take my time and get what I really want. Now that I've finally decided on the Tacoma and the package I'm itching to get one. I almost wish the dealer hadn't mentioned the long bed, but I'm glad he did since it prompted me to do some more analysis.

Tricoma, I live in Oakland, CA and the dealer closest to me is a smaller one downtown not the big one down by the Coliseum. Surprisingly they had nothing for me to test drive at all on the lot today, they claimed they got cleaned out from Cash for Clunkers and are slowly building back their inventory. Needless to say I'll be wanting to test drive the lb and sb back 2 back to get a real comparison.

I'm definitely willing to wait for what I want if it comes down to that.

Thanks again guys, I'll let you know what I decide on. Keep those words of wisdom and suggestions coming if you have them!

    -Steve

Welcome to the site. Keep shopping for the one you really want. I have a LB and it's a little tough in parking lots but no more than manuerving a full size.

Thanks for the advice guys. After doing all the research, looking at as many pictures as possible, test driving, pondering, assessing my needs and wants I've come to a decision.

The exact truck I wanted from the start!

2010 Tacoma TRD Sport DC SB in Magnetic Gray Metallic.

Turns out they're hard to get a hold of, even though they make them right down the street! I'm going to be loyal to my local dealer though and give them the chance to get it in. They said by the end of the month, so that's not too bad, although it's been a week of failing to deliver already. I have faith!

I can see it already and all the mods I'm planning on doing. Nothing too intense to start mesh grill, paint the wheels black, maybe debadging...and go from there. No lifts yet. Coming from a 1st Gen Prius this will be plenty big for now. I have plans for a bit of a lift and tires after a little of time.

I'll post pics when I can.

Thanks again for all the support.

I'll be seeing you guys around the forum!

    -Steve
