So I'm dumb and screwed something up. I pulled this gasket off of this plastic thing and don't know how to get it back on. Any suggests? What's the name of this part?image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

It's located on the left side of the engine and it protects electrical wires going in behind the glove compartment.

It is not simply pushing back in. The rubber gasket has a few lips and the plastic gives only a little space. The gasket seems like it should go over and around the white plastic but I can't seem to get it to grab and hold nor be able to get it to do so around the entire plastic piece.

You really need to try to work the rubber grommet back into place. That rubber piece prevents water from running inside the truck. directly on the otherside, where all the wires run to, is the truck ECU. You do not want that to get wet. It is basically the computer that runs the truck engine.

You could try applying a small amount if WD 40 to the grommet. It will make it more slippery and easier to reattach. The WD 40 will evaporate in a short while and won't hurt the rubber.

It's certainly an important gasket to keep water out for sure. Will try the wd40 tomorrow morning. Does the gasket wrap around the outside of the plastic or does it "pop" slide on the inside of the plastic?

Teflon spray or lubricant might be a better option.

I used to get this stuff in a small tube to coat the window seals on an old T top camarro my wife had.

Just use a little liquid soap. Will evaporate and won't hurt the rubber.

There is no plaice on a Toyota that will get eaten by WD 40. The nozzle is plastic.

All of the plastic cased electronic equipment I sell and service gets melted by WD40 and has done so for over a decade.

    YMMV.

I've been advised not to use wd 40 on my squeaky leaf springs for the sake of it eating components. Maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in but I'd play it safe.

Ok, fixed. The white plastic piece has four clips that can be popped out using a flathead screw driver. Then the rubber gasket can be wrapped around the plastic piece, then the part can be pushed back in where the clips will secure
