    2015 Tacoma 4x4 v6
    none - yet
Hello everyone - new member here. In my Internet searching for info on Tacomas, I kept coming across Tacoma World so I thought I would join.

I just bought a 2015 Tacoma access cab v6 4x4 automatic. I am going to the Tacoma from a 1988 Toyota 4x2 pick up (no names back then besides "SR5") with a 22R 4cyl, manual trans in a "Xtra" cab, long bed (7 ft) body. I bought this truck new in '88 and it has been totally reliable and a joy to own, but it is 27 years old and parts of it are rotting. It has only 159K on it so it still has a lot of life left, but I since I am retiring, I wanted to get something new to put a camper on and a 4x4 so I don't have to worry as much about getting stuck while wandering around out in the desert.

I was considering a Ford, but I just couldn't do it.

Changes slated for the new Tacoma (or "Texas Taco" since is was made in Tx, my birth state)

    1. Remove the rear "seats" and put in/build a "system" to store cargo for camping. The camper I am getting does not have that much storage so I have to really utilize the behind-the-seat space. I found how to do this on Tacoma World.

    2. Add air springs. I have a set of Air Lifts and will be installing them soon.

3.Remove the tailgate and install a new backup camera. I ordered a "Plug compatible" one from Camera Source that is supposed to work. This camera has infrared Leds on it so it will give you a view in the dark. Good for not running into rocks when pulling into a camping space.

    4. Find a bike rack for my mtn. bike that will fit the Tacoma's factory-installed trailer hitch and swing away so I can get into the camper door w/o taking the bike off.

The camper - a Four Wheel Camper "Eagle" model - will be installed by the factory in Woodland, CA. After it is on I will have to decide on what to "optimize" on Tacoma and camper to make it travel ready.

Also, to hopefully protect the new Tacoma's paint, I applied 2 coats of "Klasse" sealant glaze and spritzed the plastic & rubber parts with 303 Protectorant.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new Tacoma. Good call over the Ford.

Warning: The more time you spend on this forum, the lower your bank account will be.

Based on my experience with air bags, I did not like them. But my truck is a DD, and primarily travels unloaded. Even with the bags deflated it road poorly. I personally would prefer HD springs instead, but that is just personal preference. Many run air bags and like them.
