Hey guys. Just joined the forum tonight in search for some help for a friend of mine. He just bought a new Eco Tacoma. He wants to get it lifted to the same height as my prerunner. Can he buy prerunner coil overs to get him up to a factory prerunner height? Thanks for the help

No actually I have a 2013 prerunner. The guy that moved in next door liked my truck a lot. He's kinda young and just got married and he's limited on cash and apparently his wife and the mother in-law call the shots. I told her she should have gotten a used one instead of getting a new 5-lug. But since the mother in law was consigning she said no used vehicles. It almost made me mad that he was letting her do this to him. If she wanted new they could have gotten more truck for the same price if they had gotten a frontier. But too late now. Oh he's lucky he got that cause she almost put him in a Kia Soul !!

If she is cosigning then she has a good reason to be able to pick the vehicle. If he defaults on the loan, she will be the one paying for the truck and fighting to get possession of the truck.

He shouldn't complain, many people wouldn't do that to help.

No mater how many nuts his truck has. As long as his mother in-law is cosigning he will continue to have no nuts of his own. I would rather ride a bike to work than have a cosigner. My 2 cents.

i would think u could get longer springs for the front and or new shocks and the rear is currently a SUA set up yes? so you could just put the leaves over the axle and pick up ~ 3" in the back which would be about 1" over stock prerunner i think

Dont 5 luggers have a torsion bar front setup?
Maybe if he's on a budget he can crank the torsion bars a bit?

Edit: checked out the 5 lug front suspension.. It isn't a torsion bar setup.. Sorry

Don't think that 5 luggers have torsion bars, but since I've never owned one, I can't guarantee that.
I did a quick look at a 5 lug thread and what seems to be the best way to lift a 5 lug is with a Fat Bob's kit (which may be nothing more than a front spacer) and an AAL in back. There was also mention of longer shackles. Some of the trucks looked pretty good and were running 31s.

Not sure about simply adding longer shocks in the front, but I do know from past experience on another vehicle that going from spring under axle to spring over axle is not as easy as it might seem. Spring mount on the bottom of the axle housing has to be cut off and then welded to the top of the axle housing, ensuring that they're lined up correctly and that the pinion angle is correct.

Key point is highlighted above. She is signing, she gets to make the call IMO.

Gone over the Top for a 5-lug..
Tell him to join up, and pay some attention to detail for the 5-Lug section. Yes, the options are limited, but there are options. 3" Spacer/AAL with longer rear shocks will bring it up 2.75"/1.5" or in that territory, front/rear. That will also enable using larger rim/tire combinations, but go up too large, and you are playing with differential gear ratios. It can get a bit spendy.. really depends on what the truck is worth to him, or whether it would be more appropriate to start over with something closer to his needs/desires.

Nothing with a BrokeAssSpecialEdition entry level Tacoma .. depends on what he is doing with it, whether he is overtaxing it, and what he perceives as fixable/acceptable for the 5-Luggers, and when it would make better sense to do a trade in.
