It says Northern Vancouver Island on the show. Looking on a map it looks like the are scattered around Quatsino Sound?

I just re-watched the episode last night, was surfing the internet when it was on. That guy Joe has his own channel on you tube, he should have known better to leave his fero rod just sitting there. I would have stripped my clothes off and jumped in the water. If he doesn't find it he's screwed.

Two more going home in two days. Only six left after just five days in the woods. The show starts out by saying these guys are survival experts. Give me a break. I am no expert the knowledge and skills are just a hobby with me. I have emergency food and play with starting fires. Never built a shelter but have a tarp in the truck and a saw. was 68 on my last birthday and have been playing in the woods since I was 11 years old. Do not fear but respect black bears. Do not get the I want my mommy feeling these guys get when they hear one. I could go on and on but enough said.

I kinda agree with you. I'm not saying I'm Rambo or Ray Mears but a few of those guys have youtube channels about survival. Specifically Joe, the guy who lost his ferro rod. Personally I think he wanted to go home and used the lost ferro rod as an excuse.

He knew he placed it on his jacket, then it went into the water, and he made no attempt to look for it in the water, he just said i'm done. He didn't even roll up his pants legs and go at least knee deep to try and locate it. That action speaks volumes to me.

I grew up there. we used to call that camping when I was a kid.

I have encountered dozens of bears and have seen more cougars and wolves than most people and have never felt threatened yet.

It's hardly pristine wilderness. Most of the Island looks like it has been fire-bombed.

They picked one of the last green spots and even then you can see 2nd growth patches in the hills in some scenes.

That guy from Floria, the 2dnd one to bail out was hilarious. Basically admitted that he bought this courage from Smith and Wesson and without it he wanted to go home.

Well, that's how people make a living there. You can't leave all the trees standing.

Logging paid for my trips to Europe , Asia and Africa before I was even 21 years old and bought my first piece of property. I had a mortgage free home on 10 acres at 25.

The show is painful to watch. After 4–5 days only one guy has a reasonable shelter built. These so-called "experts" are mentally cracking after only a few days in, talking about isolation setting in.

"I lost my ferro rod! Well, guess I better go home."
