Me again guys just finishing up the last of my preventative maintenance by cleaning the MAF. If you haven't seen one of my many threads I bought a 1996 Tacoma about 3 weeks ago and I've been trying to do some routine maintenance on it and have been running into obstacles.

My latest is the truck came with a k&n cold air intake and everything I've seen for tutorials on MAF cleaning have been stock. I have the MAF part in hand but I can't figure out how to get it out. There are no screws and it won't twist apart. What am I missing?

I'm not sure if it makes a difference but the guy I bought it from put a k&n filter on it and this might be something he got aftermarket to work with the filter he problem is I have no idea on how to open it to get to the sensor to clean it.

Hmm ok I'll look up videos on 4runner MAF cleaning. I always thought that 4 runners were almost identical to ours in terms of maintenance? It must be a newer model 4runner.

    Thanks for the help.

That's the only thing that remotely resembles a bolt or screw hole and it most certainly is not. I'm so confused.

I think that little knob is the MAF. But theres no way to get it out. I don't think this is the same one in the video

After further inspection I think this little thing inside might actually be the MAF. It doesn't look like the MAFs I've seen and I'm not sure if this kind is safe to spray and clean. (it doesn't appear to have the amber resin coating)

Bump. I need to know if I can spray MAF cleaner in there or if I should just leave it alone.

the whole assembly is the MAF. just spray it down inside one end where it looks like there are small wires that can be seen in one of those pics. they changed the MAF on the 3.4 in 99 to the smaller ones that are bolted to intake.

Word of advice just order a AFE dry filter that's the same size as your k&n and never have to worry about that oil clogging it up!

Be very careful, that is a rare part and cost over $700!

Yeah I've been reading on the problems with the k&n oiled filters and thinking about changing mine out. The guy before me really did a number to this truck.
