Using the exhaust as a crumple zone is a bad idea. If that were to be crushed causing a bottleneck it could cause an increase in pressure at the manifold or even the turbo (when OP gets one)
This could cause poor engine performance and decrease in fuel economy.

Rock guards, skids or sliders is the better option for this purpose.

Nah, it's a great idea. Saves on total weight by making the exhaust dual-purpose. OP is clearly concerned with weight savings. If it gets crumpled in the middle of nowhere and increased backpressure is an issue, OP can straight pipe it. Plus, rock protection that is sacrificial creates more projects and OP likes to spend time in the garage.

That's what I've been saying all along. Phil needs to be rolling coal with tow mirrors.

Because these trucks are so heavy the sway bars actually make a lot of difference on the road. However, they don't limit offroad travel. Slee did a bunch of testing on them years ago and they found it was just better to leave the swaybars connected. The limiter on suspension travel is the radius arms. So unless you wanna go all crazy with a custom 4-link and ditch the radius arms, it's not worth disconnecting the sway bars since they aren't the limiting factor. I still run my sway bars full time.

Silly Aussies. Exhaust routing like that is actually kinda common over there and in Asia with all the water crossings they do. But doesn't change the fact that it looks stupid.
