No body really likes them. They have a purpose yes, but often are a huge source of contention. Whether your state gave tolling privileges to a private contractor, or a tolling agency has ridiculous administrative fees they add on or dont bill you until penalty fees are added, just about everybody hates tolls. In my state (WA), tolls came around about 10 years ago, yet the tax base continues to grow pretty rapidly and there is always talks about higher gas taxes.

    Frankly, its bullsh!t.

Yet we pay them anyways and bitch about it and b!tching to others can be helpful. Anyone who's affected by Washington's SR-99 Tunnel Project (Big Bertha) has bitched about it I'm sure -- and If not, I would really like to meet someone who thinks its a good idea. How about the new HOT lanes coming on I-405? Anyone think its a good idea to toll vehicles in HOV lanes who meet the HOV occupancy requirements, but haven't paid $30 to a private contractor to set up a toll account?

How effed up is your local area's tolls and your state's DOT?

Not many toll roads here in Michigan. With that said our roads are just shit!

I just got back from 9 days in Florida. Traveled many toll roads around that state. The roads were just awesome! I paid the fees with joy. Damn those roads were nice!

Around here, the Mass Pike uses E-ZPass. The lines are just as long.... and maybe even longer than the cash lines.

I will "Chime in" with TOLL thoughts....Having lived and still continually travel both ends of the 95 corridor;Maine to Florida, I will say EZ Pass makes life EASY........:)

Yes , it can become a "pay as you go" BUT try getting through the York,Maine toll mid-summer as a Ca$h customer ,Hampton,NH toll during EVERY holiday weekend as Ca$h ................He!! try going through the burroughs of NY or over the GW Bridge as ca$h,then stop and go on the NJTP...o_O.......Not having it would cost me at least 12-24 hours each trip to see family....My time is $$$$

Florida SHOULD jump on the EZ PASS program ( 2 -4 sensors SUCKS:annoyed: ) but the savings alone from discounted rates and no cash fumbling "in-state" make weekend trips a breeze....The Greenway or East-West around the I-4 corridor can save you how much time
and the "left coast" has added express routes around Brooksville and Polk county....

Does this change my attitude about driving through "Cattle country" to go north.....NO and I enjoy those twisty ,knarly "Farm highways" and DO NOT want Tolls on these BUT that is why the "Alley",75 and 95 are so busy........somtimes you need a :burnrubber: driving experience..

Enjoy your SUNDAY............Dam Manatees keep swimming by and distracting me....this took 35-40 minutes to compose

A toll is as tax, try not paying the toll on a toll road. No you don't have to travel a taxed/tolled road. I know Pennsylvanians can't travel to New Jersey without going over a tolled/taxed bridge unless you wish to swim across the Delaware river. Point is a toll is a tax.
    Other examples of 'taxes'
    Marriage license
    Building permit
    Car registration
    The list is long...

We have a few toll roads around here, its not a huge impact on most people just interstate traffic. Its lucky we have the toll roads because our short sited government has been raiding the piggy bank to cover massive tax cuts. They keep "borrowing" from the highway fund to cover horrible tax policy.
