Dex III or T-IV transmission fluid for a 2000 2.7L

    Am I correct to assume that the required spec for this is the Dexron III fluid, not T-IV? If i already have a case of T-IV, can i use this, or is it better to get synthetic Dexron III?

    I am planning to do a full flush per:

    I spend most my time working on BMW's, so i have handy a case of Febi Bilstien 14738, which is a lifetime LT71141/ESSO spec fluid which is also Dex III compatible. I also have about 6 bottles of Redline D4 i usually keep for manual trannys. Am I also correct that these would not comply with the Toyota T-IV spec for the A340 tranny?

    These fluids are each round $12/quart, so i would prefer not to go through 10 quarts of them if its not going to perform better then T-IV at $5/quart.

    Hello?

    I just noticed that the tranny dipstick says Dexron II on it.....

    So no to using T-IV fluid? Is it compatible?

    Still looking for advise and experiences...

    Ive seen the TSB article in the 2000 FSM. It states that DexII/III was spec for the A340E up until 2003. Though the same transmission in a Lexus SC300 of the same year calls for T-IV.

    I know you probably don't want to hear such a basic answer. Personally I would look in the owners manual. If the manual doesn't specify or the manual isn't present, I'd call the service department at the local toyota dealership.

    my 02 takes Dex3 and I believe the went to T4 in 2003. If in doubt, I'd just use the Dex3 and sell that T4 to someone with a Gen2 tacoma. Better safe than sorry.
