As I'm prepping the '99 to be the family car for a while, I'm getting after little details here and there. One is the pretty common vinyl crack on the driver's seat. I've seen the same in other older Tacos.

    332wl7b_99f33de71912489a83b37249222359801553ce5c.jpg

I'm not interested in aftermarket seat covers or duct tape repairs - I like the colors as they are, and the interior is otherwise in pretty good shape, considering the age. The seat cover comes off pretty easily, but I can't find an OEM replacement. Any good leads for replacement/repair?

Might not help but, my wife had a Rav 4 that she bought a new OEM seat cover from dealership. I really don't remember what is cost though.

Is that the 60/40 or bucket?
    98-99 60/40 lower cushion cover Blue/Gray: 71072-04021-B2
98-99 Ext Cab SR5 lower cushion cover Blue Gray: 71071-04080-B1

Cost seems to be over $300

Wow. That's high. Can buy Cabelas neoprene seat covers for that price.

At that point I would try to find some replacement seats.

Either that or bring it to an auto interior specialist and have them reupholster it for you.

the seat bottoms come off with 2 bolts on each side under the trim molding.

any seat from a 4runner will be an exact bolt on replacement or any Toyota should work as well so hit the salvage yard or someone with a parts truck.

sides dont matter so if its a passenger side the vinyl will just be on the hump side, if you have buckets, you can switch the bottoms and hide that tear so it will be against the hump and not show

Does anyone know if the forerunner seats are longer in the seats or cushier at all. Mine are in good shape and I'm using seat covers but they're just not very comfortable. Was considering swapping for better seats that fit. Sorry to thread jack. Mine is a 99 xtra cab.

Vinyl repair kit. It's not going to be perfect but will likely be all that you can do with it if you don't want a new seat.
I just bought a Permatex vinyl repair kit for some seat repair recently. I've only gotten past the adhesive stage but will hopefully finish the rest today. May post pictures when I'm done (but not if it looks horrible lol).
You will likely want the kit that has the heated tool on it since you have such a large area. You also may need two kits for enough adhesive and color.

I replaced the ones in my 99 with ones from a 4runner

the seat bottoms and backs are identical in 1st gen Tacoma and 3rd gen 4runners and I just unbolted and swapped them onto my seat frames

Most upholstery for the pre-2004 tacomas has been discontinued through Toyota. You will usually only find it at remnant houses like SMS in Oregon. Pretty much, if they dont have it; it doesnt exist

I have the same problem with my drivers side seat except the fabric has ripped from years of use. Do you have the OEM factory number for the tan/oak interior?

Before mine started getting rough I swapped bottom cushions from driver to passenger side so the tire was on the inside of the passenger seat and it’s not as visible! Good luck finding matching upholstery patterns...

Great! Could you maybe elaborate a bit moreon swapping seat bottoms and backs on your 99? My driver's seat has over 100K miles on it while the passenger seat has maybe 2K miles.
Are you aware of any write-up that explains this in a bit more detail?

Remove both seats and remove plastic trim. Each seat has 4-12 or 14mm bolts. Swap sides reinstall the trim and boat back into place! easy enough?

You are right, it is real easy. I did that on mine and got a few more years out of it. Finally it was wearing out so much I needed to do something, so I reupholstered it with leather.
