I can't say if the bulbs were new or not, but on my replacements they're definitely not LED bulbs.

Not sure why you're having issues. Our 08 lenses looked exactly like yours. Took them into a local Toyota dealership and had them replaced the same day, because they happened to have the parts in.
I received a letter for the recall but didn't bring it in, just had them look it up.

Mine didn't either. I added them. But my dealer ordered new ones for me a few days ago. The catch could be that I am still under the Toyota Company extended 7 year warranty.

2011 OR, 71,000 mi. , 2 wire. Just noticed some slight bubbling in my drivers side DTRL. I cut the green and red wire and added a switch. Dealership wants to look at it even though I am outside the added warranty period. We'll see...

Read the Warranty Enhancement Letter posted in the link here in post #183. It is for 2005-2011 and there is no mileage limitation. It extends the original 36,000 miles to unlimited miles. Maybe print that letter out and take it with you to your dealer.

Took mine in Saturday. CSR took one look and said yeah you have the symptoms. He said normally they send the truck to the techs to have a look over. He said screw that it's obvious. Put a parts request into the system and said he will call when the parts come in (I watched him to make sure). Once the parts come in make an appointment to get the work done. This dealership never gives me any trouble.

Is date of first use the build date? I was wondering what that means from my letter?

05 with 140k miles. Lens were melted and black. A few months ago the dealer changed out the headlights for new ones with glass over the DTRLs, old ones were plastic. It was free.

Dealership looked at mine and will only change the drivers side. Don't know how it will look with one new type and one old...especially if the new type lens is glass.

I would raise hell over that. It will look funny. It would also be so easy to do since they will already have the grill off to do one side. I think the bulletin does say that they will only be replaced if they assemblies show damage but I think your dealer interpretation is a bit extreme. I would think this is no burden on dealership. I would think Toyota Corp. would be paying for the parts and installation.

I called a different dealership, and they will be replacing BOTH light assemblies. According to this dealership there is written guidance from Toyota to change both, even if only one has damage. The new design is a different part number from stock and the glass lens looks slightly different. I guess the first service manager didn't read far enough.

The June 2009 date on my letter was the delivery date. I bought the truck off of the dealer lot.

I got a call from my Toyota Dealer yesterday that the parts were in for my replacement lights for my '09 Taco. It took about a week for the parts to come in. I took it in this morning and brought it home this afternoon. Nice looking replacements.

It was zero cost to me being covered by the Warranty Enhancement Program. As I mentioned earlier I bought the vehicle from this dealer and did the DRL install myself. I never received a letter in the mail about a recall since my truck didn't come with DRL. I was never asked a question about if I had installed the DRL or not. I am not sure if it matters but we also bought a 2012 Highlander from the same dealer. Perhaps the dealers have the option to accommodate some customers as opposed to others.

Update: Dealership changed both headlight assemblies....however now I have clear lights instead of smoked original to the OR. Dealership admits mistake, finds correct part # for the smoked assemblies and schedules for replacement. I really can't complain as I am the first case of melted DTRL they have dealt with and they have been very interested in helping me. Hindsight; check parts before installation.
