Hey guys ive got a 06 Tacoma with the TRD off road package so i have a 7 blade trailer connector from the factory and a trailer witha 4 pin flat connector. I have an 7 to 4 adapter however when i plug everything in the trailer tail lights lights come on but my turn signals and brake lights do not work. I know the turn signal bulbs are functional because the light up with the tail lights. What is the problem, wiring? The adapter? Do tacomas need a specific adapter to go to american 4 flat?

^^this...first step is to check the adapter.

image.jpgimage.jpg I have a tester like this one and when i plug it into the adapter everything reads as being functional so i guess the problem should not be the adapter unless it is incompatible with my 4 flat trailer connector

If the adapter is good, then the easiest thing to do would be to try the trailer on another truck...if you have someone you can con into helping out. After that, I'd start tracing wiring to make sure nothing is wonky.

When was the last time you know the trailer lights functioned properly?

I just bought the trailer used and apparently they worked last year i called a nearby trailer store and they said it is probably blown fuse(s) does anyone know where the trailer brake light and turn signal fuses are located?

When towing a trailer I have to jiggle the adapter a bit to find the best position for the trailer lights to function. Try hooking up the trailer, turn on your headlights and then jiggle the adapter and see if you can find a position where everything works. Also make sure your trailer wiring is well grounded.

I would first verify the trailer lights are working properly, then test the adapter, then go to 7 pin socket. I had trouble with my 94 toy pickup of blowing the turn signal fuse for the truck, when I put the truck in reverse with the trailer harness hooked up, solution was to replace a corroded turn signal assembly on the truck.

I have a '13 Tacoma with the same plug and I usually have to wiggle it to make it work. (That's what she said)
