image.jpg towed my buddies boat for the first time a couple days ago. She did pretty well for the most part. It was the inclines where she lost most of the power. It wasn't too bad but feel I can add a few parts to it to help with that issue. The boat and trailer is about 1000-1200lbs. I have a 2000 taco 2.4l a/t... Any suggestions?? Keeping in mind that I'm on a budget as well! Lol

2.4 auto is just not going to be well suited for towing. You really need a manual or preferably a V6. You could regear and supercharge at a cost of over $6k+ but is clearly not worth it. Getting a V6 truck would be a far better solution if you need to tow.

Drive slower, manually downshift on the grades that give issue to keep from constantly down/up shifting on it's own. If there are a lot of grades and a lot of towing, a trans cooler would be a consideration.

I've seen that size boat (14' McKee Craft, Boston Whalers) towed with less or equal power, quite safely, but only in a 50 mile radius on mostly flat roads.

Ramps can be a problem if uber slick.

Thanks guys! I wanted a taco really bad and this was the only one available at the time. It was this truck or I would've had to wait till another one came up. It was within the requirements of the loan I got approved for and the only taco I found that had less than 120 mi. On it :( thanks for the tips though!! Really appreciate it!
