Stay safe while overseas and make sure you are ready to meet your Maker just in case.
Put STA-BIL in the tank and then run it dry where it will set, remove the battery, and put the keys in a safe deposit box. On return drain the oil, change the filter, flush and refill the brake fluid, purchase a new battery and install it, fill it with fresh gas and be on your way.

For a relatively stock truck, I'd just sell it.

Thank you for your support of the military! After a talk with my parents I feel a lot more comfortable leaving my truck with them.

The worst is the lots on post soldiers leave there cars at for deployments. 50% have flat tires and not even covered they just bake in the sun.

Good luck on deployment. As far as the truck, just tell them what they told you when you were young. I'm trusting you so remember, no parties.

No kidding. the entire back portion of the parking lot of my barracks looks like a drop off for unwanted cars lol. It took a while for me to realize those belonged to guys on a float.

Thanks man, its going to be a duty station as apposed to a deployment, not to get to technical over words.
And about the party thing, hopefully they listen better than I did lol.

I went through this when me moved to Germany. I ended up selling my 71 blazer because I knew it would not handle sitting for 3 years well. We are currently keeping our sons truck until he gets somewhere where he can have it. I make a point to drive it once every 2 weeks and to wash it monthly. Change the oil (synthetic) once a year and rotate tires even though the mileage doesn't warrant it.

In the end, it's just a truck. Nothing that can't be replaced.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Don't expect anything. But give them any info needed and ask them to take care of it by driving it on a regular basis and keeping up on maint etc.

If it turns out good you will be happy, if not you didnt expect anything lol

    Mr DopeSauce,

Best wishes and thank you for your service to our great country! God Bless the Marines :).

I'm taking care of my husbands truck (that he loves) while he is away. He gave me a set of things to do because I'll be the one driving and taking care of it. You may have to figure out a few things to tell your Mom but maybe this will help. For example, you will have to tell her were to take the truck if something happens or you want something done.

    - First look for parking were there are no cars but don't take up two spots so someone doesn't key our truck
    - If I can't park away from cars find an end spot and park as close to the curb as possible; don't rub the tires on the curb
    - Make sure where ever I park I'm not in the path of, or down hill from, shopping carts
    - Under no circumstances am I to park next to a beat up car as it's a sign that they don't care about their own stuff so they won't care about ours
    - No eating or drinking in the truck
    - Wipe the dash and the leather seats once a week with 303 Protectant but never spray anything directly on the dash lenes cause stuff will get behind the lens
    - Don't let braking dust stay on the shiney parts of the wheels for too long
    - Wash or have the truck washed every 2 weeks but only at this one place
    - Have the oil changed every 5K miles but only by this one guy at the one dealer I'm allowed to go to
    - Have the truck detailed every other oil change but only at the same place we get the car washed
    - Listen carefully, everytime I start the car and when I pull into the driveway after driving it and before I turn it off, for strange sounds and if I hear anything I take it to the dealer but only have the one guy work on it

If it's the truck you want, then just let them drive it until you return. No need to sell unless you want a 3rd gen 6cyl more.

I wouldn't sell mine if I was leaving for 3 years. You'll come back to a paid off truck. Much better then coming back, and having a 30k loan. Or, searching for an identical truck and having to play the guessing game of what the previous owner did to it.

If I had to be gone from a vehicle for 3 years I'd just sell it. In 3 years who knows what will be out there and what your interest will be. You love it now, but 3 years from now...

It's worth more now. In 3 years...obviously less.

Sell while resale is high, then buy gen 3 when you return... Or save your pennies while your gone and buy a raptor when you get back!

Thank you for your service!!!! Be safe. As for storing the Truck. I used to store my vette/GTO over the winter. If you get it out to drive once a month so the oil gets moving and the tires don't flat spot you will be good. If you love the truck, don't sell it. Use it as one of the many things to look forward to when you get home. I am sure your parents will take good care of it. My son is joining the army in the fall. Right about now I would pretty much do anything to keep him happy.

I'm more than likely to be old enough to be your grandfather. I'm going to guess your folks have been driving for quite awhile and probably have a pretty good ideal how to do it and probably kind of help you learn.
