Hello all. I've got a quick question for y'all. I'm pretty much convinced the wife and I are getting a 2000-2004 Double Cab 4x4 Tacoma pretty soon, I just need to find the right one for us. Our 1988 Suburban is broke down so often it's more of a statue than a moving object.

Anyway, I'm looking at a 2002 Dbl Cab Taco, automatic trans, power everything with 202,000+ miles. It looks to be in great shape, no dents, great paint and no rust that I can see. The lot wants $11,000 for it. I know I can haggle the price down a bit but what's a good price to pay for such a vehicle? I know it's hard to figure that out without seeing it, but I'd like to know if that's too much or pretty much on target. I've never owned a Toyota before but I know they hold their value well.

Kbb says retail is $10,170 for "very good" condition. I'm guessing they have at least $1200-1500 of haggle room built into that price.

I was able to beat the dealer from 13,000 down to 9,500 on my 01 double 4x4 with 185,000 and zero rust on a cash sale. Took a couple of visits and some time and patience. This was in the rockies where first gens are fetching a premium. Just make them tired of seeing your face!

If you drive in hilly or mountainous terrain, be sure to take a suitable test drive first. The AT has an alarming lack of power in my opinion, but that is the only option for a 1st gen DC.

Well things may be changing. The lot that has the Tacoma also has a 2005 Tundra Crew Cab 4x4 fully loaded for $13,000. The wife and I are thinking of looking at that instead of the Tacoma since the Tundra would allow us to buy a good 19' or 20' bumper pull travel trailer in a couple of years.

First gen Tundras are bad ass. I'd look at that for the extra space

Tundras are awesome and better price than a 1st gen Tacoma.
