I knew from TW that the stock TRD Sport wheels with 285/70/17 would not fit without spacers. Spidertrax spacers are hub centric. The local offroad shop ordered them for me along with the lift, tires and UCA's and installed and trimmed. I'm not completely sure, but I think Spidertrax only come in 1.25 inch for Tacomas. Gives the truck a little wider stance.

OK, I am confused and frustrated. Need some help here.
I decided I would collect all my parts and have ORW install as I don't have the tools or equipment, or patience to do all what is needed.
Now they said to me why am I replacing my springs, they use stock springs all day long, it's not the spring that provides the lift, it's the Shock itself.
He also said that they wouldn't install a 1/2" spacer to bring the lift up to 3" because it's illegal to use them.

He also said that Bilstein 5100's were not the shock to use to bring the lift up to 3" he said Fox, King or Icon would be the shock to use.

So now my questions are I need clarification please. I asked him why do people replace their front springs then if they don't need to, as he said, and he stated it was because they wanted to use it in the assembly, which confused me more, yeah I know that but WHY?
He said it was for trucks with heavier bumpers and winches and such.

SO basically he said just use your stock spring with the "correct" shock to bring it up to 3".

So I was about to pull the truigger and make my purchases today for my remaining parts but now I am confused and could use some help in understanding what and why he said this stuff. and is he just BSing me?

    Any help is much appreciated.

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing, or you didn't explain everything correctly to them. There are kits where the shock provides the lift, but there are also kits where the coil spring provides the lift.

Take for instance, the bilstein 5100 front shock. It can be paired with a stock tacoma coil spring, the shock can then be adjusted to provide 2.5" of lift (in essence, by simply lengthening the shock). In that case the shock is the only component adding any height to the truck.

That same shock could instead be paired with the OME 885 coil spring. In this case, the shock would need to be set at its lowest setting (0") because the OME coil is both longer and stronger than a stock coil. In this case the spring does all the lifting.

Same amount of lift in both scenarios, just achieved differently.

ok, so how do I get 3" without having a spacer, he said they won't install the spacer, as it was illegal.
I may just have to have wheelers or someone build them for me, and send them prebuilt. Damn it. More money. But I could do the front then myself and not pay a shop to do the front.
I also have a friend who can do my AAL for me.

I have never heard of top plate spacers being illegal. He may be talking about the wheel spacers...But I didn't think those were illegal either.

To get three inches of lift without a top plate spacer, get bilstein 5100 shocks and set them to zero. Pair those with OME 887 coil springs. They will have a softer ride than the Eibachs and will get you right around 3" of lift without any spacers.

Is your truck a DC or AC?

I forgot to tell you, it's a DBL Cab.

I've been reading also about wheel spacers, putting htem on instead of gettting the correct rims size would that make the rub on body mount or anything worse? INstead of having proper rims for 285/70/17's?

ANy suggestions for rims or where to get rims at a good price? I am thinking I want to get the right rims, but I like the flat black look, no shiny stuff.

Okay, the 887s with 5100s will be perfect. I have that exact setup on my truck and love it. Up to you though...

It's hard to say really which configuration will rub the most. It depends on the wheels and tires. For wheels there are KMC XD series, pro comp, method, MB, the list goes on and on.

All I have is a spacer lift and rear block. I know that is frowned on, but I don't do any serious off-roading and the truck looks great. I have a Pro Comp spacer lift and have nothing negative to say about it. Did the UCAs for alignment reasons. Glad I did, because it really tightened up the ride.

Did anyone need to lengthen their brake lines?
