How do you reach middle of rear engine bay?

This may sound silly but not if you ever tried to reach the middle of the back of your engine bay, sort of the bay area opposite from where your radio is. In my V6, that area is right above the transmission front case and it is where the coolant back passage manifold is. I am 6'2" with rather long arms and I struggle to reach that area no matter where I approach it from (front of the engine bay or a side). Sometimes, I climb a step ladder but I lose stability.

I am just curious if you have some kind of a scaffolding-like rig to reach into this remote area ? I am almost tempted to rig two tall sawhorses that are taller than the hood and set each on either side of the engine bay and then set a 2x12 bridge that I can lie on when I reach this area.

    Pictures would be nice
