Heated Mirrors Kit - Interest / Update Thread (pic heavy)

Hi,

I ordered the kit from Jaimes just over a week ago and received it June 30. Since I didn't plan anything for Canada Day, i decided to use that day off to install it.

• Printed off the available instructions from the OP.
• Packaging was top notch and it arrived in a perfect condition.
• The craftmanship and quality off the harness puts the Veh's OEM ones to a shame!
• The mirrors themselves are the exact replacements (with heating elements) for the Tacoma, same goes for the switch.
• I followed the instructions to the letter and it went very well. So detailed and well explained, one just can't go wrong.
• Took my time, some of the trims/panels I had to be careful with since i didn't have previous experience regarding their removal.
• It took me a total of 4hrs to perform the task (to incl gathering tools and supplies, look up online before I break something during the removal of the dead pedal, glove box, etc, smoke breaks, sip a couple beers, clean up the truck and put away the tools and supplies).

The zip tie thing (necessary) will exercise your patience.
If working by yourself, you will require a step ladder or something similar and a soft blanket or towel to support de disassembled mirror while working by the doors.
When you reassemble the mirrors, ensure your two wires are sticking out of the housing for at least 1'' to 1 1/2''. They tend to get back in when you reassemble the mirror. If they aren't sticking out, you won't be able to connect them to the prongs.

Difficulty: 3-4/10, anyone should be able do this mod, especially with the provided instructions.
Just take your time and focus on protecting the trims and the vehicle`s finish.
Works perfectly and unless you point at the switch and describe the job, no one could guess you dismantled about a third of your interior.

Thanks for the detailed review! Glad everything went well for you. You are right that without a second set of hands you will need something to prop the mirrors up by the truck door while running in the power wire.

Thanks for putting the kit together! I wouldn't be able to buck up the cash right now but I'll for sure get a kit before winter! Last winter there was at least a dozen times where I NEEDED heated mirrors. Frick it sucks not having them! Great work again and I can't wait to get a kit on my truck.

 

Thanks! It's pretty lame that Toyota seems to have made heated mirrors available for nearly every model except the Tacoma.

No worries though, just let me know when you are ready to be added on the list. The kit will have no problem keeping your mirrors clear throughout winter

 

Hey guys,

Just a quick update that I plan to post instructions for the under the AC control option hopefully in the next few days. I was missing a few photos so had to take part of my truck apart to get them. The instructions will be mostly the same as the left of steering wheel option, but it is a different harness with slightly different routing so needed its own instructions.

Also ordered a ton of supplies last week so hopefully most of you guys on the list won't experience much delay come September

I've had mine for a couple of years, I love it! .... I did it through the OEM Heated Mirror thread Benson pioneered.

FYI, I'm the guy that discovered we can use the '12 Highlander OEM heated mirrors..... and shared that in Benson's thread .

Good luck with the sales! BTW, give your neighbor OZ-T a discount on a kit..... he's been crying about no heated mirrors since day 1 .

Thanks, I think having the electrical connections taken care of will appeal to a lot of people who may have otherwise passed on this mod. Yeah it's great being able to just push a button and having your mirrors cleared up. Before I had mine in I could either drive with them frosted or manually clear them off and hope that they didn't start to frost over again before I was done driving.

Finding the direct replacement mirrors was a great find! Same cost as the sienna mirrors but no need to do any modifications, doesn't get much better than that. I don't know how hard it was for you to find that, I've found a couple little gems along the way but have found Toyota to be of little assistance in confirming any details about their own products/part numbers. Luckily almost anything can be found on the internet if you are determined enough!

Well Oz was one of the first to jump in line when I made this thread and I appreciate it as I know I haven't been around on these forums as long as some others, so I did expect there might be some hesitation from other members, especially after having read some of the vendor threads that took a turn for the worst. Working on a bit of a custom setup on his and I'll be sure it delivers exactly what he is after

 

I'm not very good at posting pictures, but if you look in my gallery you can see the switch I have for my heated mirrors.
I like your setup, but I have the heated Muth mirrors with the turn signal option, they are working good, I just like to replace their switch with yours. In a earlier post you said if I could supply a wiring diagram you might be able to help me out. I don't have a diagram, but my switch has only 3 terminals on the back. I know this will probably not be much help, but I have a red wire coming from a fuse holder to terminal 1, orange wire from circuit board to terminal 2 and a blue wire from the circuit board to terminal 3. Not sure if anyone else out there have the Muth mirrors that could lend some help. My switch only lights up when the switch is on and after 10 or 15 minutes the heat turns off and the switch starts to blink to let you know the heat is off. I like your switch the lights when you turn on the truck lights and then also likes to let you know the switch is activated. Thanks for any help you can give me. I still want to purchase 1 of your switches.

Do you happen to have a link to their website, I'll have a look and see if they have schematic. Your red wire is likely power in if it has an inline fuse. One of them is going to be power out for when your switch is pressed. The third wire I really couldn't say for certain without looking at a schematic or having the wiring here.

Do you happen to know if there wire harness has a relay in it? The switches I'm using are not rated for the amperage that the mirrors draw so a relay is a must.

Also to be honest with you if all you need is a switch it would probably be cheaper for you to order one from Toyota as it costs me $15 to do a tracked shipment to the US. With that said if it can be done just by making a few changes to your current harness I'd be happy to have a look and let you know what changes would be needed.

Well I wouldn't mind if it got pinned up at the top of the page, but that would be up to mods and I kind of doubt that would happen unless this thread explodes come fall / winter. Anybody looking to follow the thread as it is updated can check through the "watched threads" area and as long as they have posted here or subscribed it should show up in bold in the watched threads anytime there is new posts.

I think there is also a way to set it up so you get email updates every time there is a post but I've never set that up before.
