Hey Dang, What is your suspension, wheel, and tire setup? Your truck is EXACTLY the way I want mine setup. Also props on the swap man. If I buy a prerunner this go round I will be doing this also.

The one on the passenger side is your VSS. The gray one on the driver side is the Neutral Safety Switch. I forget if the black one on the drive side is also part of the Neutral Safety Switch. Its somewhere in my thread on TTORA or sub threads of another member.

I am planning to swap my 03 double cab 4x4. My question is, do you know if I can keep my ADD with the manual transfer case? I have shift on the fly not the push button ADD. Sweet build!

Yeah you'll just have to figure out how to activate it if you want to keep it electrically controlled, I locked mine in once and just use the manual transfer case to lock it in 4wd

Are you saying that you were able to tie the switch into the manual transfer case stick?

I'm pretty sure that the switch that tells your front diff to engage and disengage is the 4wd swit h mounted on the side of your case just below the shifter base. That's is the same switch that turns on your 4x4 light...

You could do that but no I just applied 12v to the harness and locked it in permantely. If you wanted to go the route you're mentioning you could just wire a relay or something to the position switch that triggers your 4wd light

Hey Dang, I've been lurking on TTORA and TacomaWorld for years and your truck is one of my favorites. Seems like I read somewhere that you kept ABS when you converted from ADD to manual hubs. If that was you, how did you do it? Is it as simple as getting freewheel hubs pressed into ABS spindles? Thanks!

Thanks sir. It was not me and yes you are correct. You must have abs spindles from an add truck. Press out the hubs and press in manual hub bearings. If you have a slight feeling you might want to long travel go with ADD. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Dang! My 03 Tacoma already has ABS which I want to keep for the rare occasion that my wife needs to borrow my truck and it's winter. Plus I can reuse the existing spindles and it will be fewer parts to purchase when I convert.

I'm not into long-travel, just maximum off-road reliability because where I live it's possible to get very far away from civilization. I'd also like to eliminate possible front-end vibes when I lift in the future and have the ability to limp back to a paved road in 2WD in case I break an axle shaft. So I should need to collect the following parts, right?

    -non ADD CV axles
    -freewheel hubs and bearings
-non ADD axle tube so I can remove all ADD components

Thanks so much for the expertise!

Picked up a Yakima QTower system for cheap and gave the truck a wash. Chilling at CSULB waiting for class.

Shack down run with the roof top tent.

Quick stop in LA before our test trip. It was around 10am so we stopped for some food at Eggslut.

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/eggslut-los-angeles-2

I wouldn't drive out of my way for the food, but it was good.

Worlds stinkiest bathroom on the road to Sequoia. Bathrooms are not as maintained as I thought they would. It may be due to resources being allocated for the rough fire.

The GF approves the roof top tent. No more ground sleeping. Scorpion and giant ants were seen on the ground. Here is our set up at Lower Peppermint Campground.

    http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sequoia/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=79794&actid=29

The smell around the bathrooms were very strong. Don't camp by the bathroom if you can help it. There are lots of flies at this location so bring bug spray. A fire would help but fire bans were in place due to the rough fire. We were planning to camp off the grid but we were to hungry. Camping cost $17 a night which isn't to bad at all. Stacks of firewood were available if you come during a non fire ban.

Picked up a camp fire permit from the fire-station. They told us stoves were only allowed with in the park. We set up camp very quickly and started cooking our meal. People will call it glamping, but it came in a box from Ralphs. Makes a great first day meal and it was easy to pack.

Checking out some BLM land in Keyesville, CA

    http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/bakersfield/Programs/Recreation_opportunities/Keyesville_SRMA.html

Camping is free at this location. Kern river is a little murky in this location. Trash can be found through out the area. Trash included broken glass bottles, beer cans, plastic bags, q-tips, pieces of balloons, and bottle caps. Bathrooms were unacceptable, again this may be due to the rough fire. The further away from the river the cleaner it will be. We drove around the other side and found the cleanest spot we could.

On the way home we hit up Santa Monica for a quick lunch break. Picked up some Philzcoffe and sandwiches at Bay Cities Italian Deli.

Overall a great weekend trip and tests run. We noted things we needed to change for our next trip.

    Things I need to address:
    1. I plan on adding more weight and need to swap to Allpro Exp leaf springs.

    2. The RTT needs to be moved to the camper shell and some kind of wind deflector needs to be created.

    3. Second OEM Center Carrier bearing was going out after 6 years of service. New one is currently on its way.
