Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I wanted to give it a shot on the car.

The truck I plan on running with the stock trd blower for a long time so I don't have any worries beyond just running premium fuel

That's an avenue I'm considering as well. I just don't know enough about it and am also not wanting to shell out 5 bills for a kit just yet. I still gotta figure out my guages situation. Lol.

Yeah I wouldn't use a booster of any sort but I know people that pack some race fuel or a bottle of booster just in case they get in a bind. Sounds like the Tacomas are pretty forgiving when it comes to altering different octane fuels if you had too? I know most vehicles have a custom tune for a specific octane.

I have heard they will pull timing if you absolutely have to run regular gas. So you could drive lightly until you could get good gas. Not sure if its true but it makes sense as long as your not boosting or driving hard it should be fine in a bind.

Mines seems to dislike Chevron fuel 87 for sure with the blower and without the blower when I was still N/A. It would knock and ping all day like crazy. Since I got the blower in I was pinging with Chevron 87 so I switched to Shell 91 and the problem went away insanely quick. I'm starting to wonder if Chevron is selling snake oil fuel with all their Techron BS.

I only buy shell and bp if I can.. sunoco is good gas but i never see them. I got a really bad tank of fuel with water in it at a chevron once it left a sour taste in my mouth haha

You know. I filled up with Chevron close to religiously and one time my check engine light came on for a lean code, engine was running like shit. It went away in short order and I refilled again at the same station several days later. No problems, next thing I knew the stock fuel pump failed, which leads me to wonder if Chevron is selling bullshit gas.

Doesn't the SC instructions say to run 91?

    I think so. At least.

My issue with the failed pump and engine running like shit was when I was N/A.

Regardless of Octane rating. I dont think I'm filling up at Chevron anymore.

Should be a good strategy for the desert. I'll keep you posted on how that works on the rocks.

When automakers announced a new top tier fuel quality standard, Chevron was the only brand that met the new standard without being forced to reformulate. Google it. If a manufacture makes a product of such high quality that literally every other competitor in the industry fails the test and scrambles to remake their products to claim to compete, my dollars will go to the guy that did it right the first time, every time.

I mean...TBH, working at a refinery I can say...it's all the same fuckin gas...different companies just have different additives. Chevron is actually one of the better companies gas. I've never put anything but 91 in my vehicles...since 91 is only 20 cents a gallon more than 87....let's do the math here...it's I buy 20 gallons of 91. I'm only spending $4 more than if I buy 87...but I'm getting much cleaner and better quality gas. Just sayin, for everyone's sake lol

Which basically translates to the amount of 1 gallon of gas for higher octane.

Why is it that the truck hated Chevron, but suddenly I try Shell and all is well and happy in Ocantanialand then?

In Canada shell guarantees there gas is ethanol free and has the best level nitrogen enrichment. Shell has always preformed far better in my truck than other suppliers.

Only put in what the manufacture recommends. Slower burning 91 will likely produce less power than 87, if your engine is tuned for 87. Obviously boosted 4.0s should run 91.

That is a nice refresher from the US, where our fuel contains "up to 10% ethanol" at any given fill up.

This is good to hear. Looks like my new fuel of choice is indeed Shell. :)

Note that Canada has better fuels than we do in the USA. And Cali is likely to water down everything possible to be eco friendly, so it isn't an apples to apples comparison.

Well mine is all done!!:yay: Very nice dealer experience! It took a day and a half, but that was mainly due to the master tech finishing up a frame replacement yesterday. He took the time to talk with me about the install, etc. He even put the box with all my stock parts in a big trash bag so not to get the interior of my truck dirty:thumbsup:. Pretty inpressive as far as I am concerned. Took it fairly easy on the way home, but got on it a few miles from my house. Pretty damn inpressed while taking it up in the higher rpm's. Having a few turbo cars, this is definitely a different experience. One in which I am digging.....
