Ok, this is a little disheartening. On Saturday we bought a 2015 Taco, prerunner, 4L, auto. It had 5 miles on it when we test drove it...12 miles when we drove it off the lot. Wife was loving it.

Today, the CEL / TRAC OFF lights came on when my wife got off the freeway on the way home from work. Searches here suggest that it coooould be something as dumb/simple as the gas cap not being seated tightly enough. We're still on our first tank of gas...and haven't touched the gas cap. Went to the dealer about 90 mins before they closed for the day. They pulled codes, and say there's an issue with the wheel speed sensor. I know electric shit is what breaks on yotas these days...but at 160 miles it's kind of annoying for a $26k truck to have an issue. C'mon toyota! You've got a reputation to uphold for crying out loud! There's really no excuse for a modern car to have any kind of issue in the first 30,000 miles. Our 2006 Chevy Aveo, which is pretty much universally considered a POS, didn't do any CELs until it was over 50k miles and that was the stupid gas-cap-is-loose code.

Anyway, the stealership wants to keep the truck overnight and fix it tomorrow morning. Whatever. Crap better work from here on, I tell you whut!

I had a similar experience, turned out to be the gas cap - my dealer service rep said it can take 80 miles for that to reset. I disconnected the battery to reset the CEL, and it never came back on. Hope it is something simple and you get her back quickly and fixed.

Probably when they put that free tank of gas in the knucklehead didn't turn the gas cap till it clicked.

It ain't the gas cap... they worked on it last night and today and it's still not fixed. I'm guessing they've seen the gas cap thing 6372537484 times and would have fixed that in 5 mins.

Thats what happens with all this electronic's now a days, they are getting far from your DYI repairs unless you have the proper tools. They will make good, but sucks it's a new truck. It really doesn't matter what brand they all have issues if not I wouldn't make a living.

I don't think 6372537484 Toyotas have been sold yet. You seem slightly pessimistic.

So you're having one issue which being under warranty will be corrected by Toyota yeah its lame that it is brand new but it'll be OK. You are or where in the military this minor issue should pale in comparison to crap you've had to deal with.

I suppose it's annoying because I've never spent over $15k on anything but a house before...so something this expensive should run forever and shit winning powerball tickets.

The stealership is annoying me also. They've decided they can't get parts they need until Monday...and can't get the right installer guy until Tuesday. But they close at 6, and my wife doesn't even get home until 6, and needs the truck for her commute, so now we need to wait all the way until next Saturday to take it back in. They claim everything is OK to drive, its just a rogue sensor. We'll see.

Should have requested a rental car and told them to keep it till fixed that's what I did same thing happened but had a factory defective loose leaf spring and parts were supposed to take 2 months to arrive. Got them in a week they were beat up in transit so my tech went out and took ones off a brand new taco and put them on mine left the other truck till new parts arrived

In the end, all was good. Sensor cost $142...which we didnt have to pay, of course. They only needed the truck for a couple of hours to replace it. No CEL or other issues ever since. Hopefully that's the only problem between here and 200,000 miles. :)
