Are there any links to a 4cyl deckplate mod? I know the air box is shaped differently on a 4cyl. I think you just have to put the plate on the front right or wrong?. Also what filter would pair best with this (stock or washable)?

save yourself all the trouble and just cut off the back side of the 90 in the fender

it gives the exact same results as the deck plate mod and its free plus its drawing cool "clean" air from the fender and not sucking up hot air from under the hood or letting splashed mud get into the filter box like a deck plate can.

remove air box, remove plastic duct connection from fender, cut 90 off the back side then reinstall everything and your done.

best part is, no one can tell you did it and it still looks factory original under the hood

I did the exact same thing years ago without any problems. I never understood why people want to open their airbox up to the hot engine air. The stock intake is a "cold air" intake.

The front has some ridges, but its not a big issue. I did this on mine with some extra RTV silicone and gorilla glue to make it work. Its looks pretty enough from the outside. Though the only improvement ive noticed is going up hills at speed, such as going up a grade on a freeway, there is slightly more oomph.

Because magic, that's why. bajillions were spent finding out that under hood is a bad place ţo draw combustion air. Pennies spent stepping backwards.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. From what I've read (from googling and reading threads like this), cooler intake air supposedly increases HP, at the cost of a loss in MPG. I value MPG more than HP, so I did the deck-plate mod on my 3RZ. I used a spare intake lower box, so that I can un-do it just before the bi-annual smog check (just in case an unknowledgeable smog-tech might think it was illegal).

Increasing HP with a loss of mpg isn't really going to happen. Physics says no. Cooler air carries more oxygen per volume than hot air does. A vehicle takes the exact same amount of hp to travel at xxx speed regardless of the hp available to the engine. So if you cruise at 30hp, it will still take 30hp even if your engine puts out 30billion hp at peak.

The more oxygen available (within reason) the more efficient your engine can become, it will take less pedal to generate the same amount of hp. The less pedal used, the less fuel being used, the higher the mpg will be. But we're talking about small changes, you're not going to double your hp or mpg with this. It will be minor.

The biggest change you'll see on any 'performance' bolt on is that people tend to then start changing their driving habits to 'feel' that monster 2hp increase and become more aggressive on the pedal. And they will always swear they were driving 'exactly the same'. That change in driving can become really noticeable at the pump, and the blame will almost always fall on the part and not the driver.
