Regardless, CR has always been pretty useless when it comes to Auto reviews, especially concerning trucks. They review every vehicle, no matter the type, by the exact same commuter car parameters. They didn't care for the Colorado, dislike the Tacoma and downright despise the Wrangler. I occasionally refer to CR for appliance reviews, but that's it, and all they ever should be used for.

Have you driven a new Wrangler on the street? It's a terrible experience

I can't agree with you less. Consumer reports does not like the tacoma based on creature comforts, but it has top notch reliability ratings. First year included. Actually reliability dipped in 12 and 13.

Consumer reports is always something I look at and if reliability in a category that is lacking it never fails to crap out for me on that category

That's the rub. Consumer's used to recommend vehicles with top reliability. They pan the Tacoma so much, they don't even recommend it as a good used vehicle buy despite high owner satisfaction. They put the Frontier over the Taco with a worse reliability rating, and they just love the Honda Ridgeline 'trar', but recommend you don't go off-roading with it. If I'm looking for a good used vehicle, I agree that reliability is a big sell, but Consumers apparently doesn't anymore. They just give the reliability nod to the Ridgeline and the Tundra, and rate the Taco dead last in predicted reliability despite owner input proving otherwise for the last several years.

CR is now garbage, I used to use them with good results, they let me down with my fridge and several other purchases. I assume they are no longer "objective" and get better results searching the web for repair/problems + "product"

Lot of CR bashing on here. I'm not sure exactly the metrics they use to test trucks but I suspect they test based upon "typical user preferences" that being someone who lives in or near an urban areas - not some mountain man. I've lived in both areas and note that most city drivers would be better suited with something like a Ridgeline. Most of the big trucks I see don't even have a scratch in the back of the bed which begs the question, why are half these trucks even bought? I'm suspecting for "image"

Having said that - at least CR buys their vehicles. I don't know of any other mag or Youtube reviewer who does that. They all get their vehicles "loaned" to them or flown to press junkets. Don't you think that's a little but of a conflict of interest? You rarely hear bad reviews from these guys.

I agree their recommendations aren't what they used to be. I've been burned on a few of their top picks even though reader input didn't agree with them. I should have listened to the readers. I'm still a member online for $12 whole dollars a year, but I find myself seeking their advice less and less. Back in the day, they were the last word on consumer advice, but as you state, they have a lot of competition now.

Before I bought my 2015 Tacoma. I looked at similar sized trucks mainly Colorado canyon and frontier.
The Colorado and canyon interior felt small and tight. Also didn't feel like a quality product.
The frontier I was not sold on the body style.

But to be fair these were personal preferences.

Why do people keep saying midsize trucks cost almost as much as full size. No. They don't. The top end Taco is 14k less than the top end tundra. The top end canyon is 30k less than the top end gmc 2500. Almost double isn't "close to the same". I think these writers just don't know fuckall about trucks except "poor people drive them".

Probably because they compare the Tacoma at MSRP, which people pay, to an F150 with up to $12K in discounts. Both are class leaders and the raw cost of taking one off the lot isn't all that different. Especially if you look at the new 2016 pricing.

Aren't you just a gem on every thread you comment on. You already had one thread locked. Having a rough night? Need to fly off the handle over the Internet to feel better? Go ahead. Tacomaworld gets fun when guys like you show up. Time for

Take $12k off the top end F-150...You're still almost $10,000 more expensive than a top end Taco. Ain't that a daisy.

Ford family pricing in Canada right now. Google it

Big difference in product between a platnium F150 and a limited Tacoma. Maybe if you actually drove each you'd realize a base model in the F150 Lariat trim is closer to the Tacoma Limited in options offered.

As you say, isnt that daisy.

    Still eating

    ?

Estimated price of the new 2016 Tacoma Limited in Canada ~$45K-$50K. Most dealers will not negotiate locally on 2015's so I'd expect that trend to continue.

Price OTD of a new Lariat FX4 (friend just bought one) $51K.

    Going a bit further.

OZ-T paid $43K OTD for a TRD Sport Tacoma in 2013.

    I just paid $41K OTD for a 2015 F150 XLT XTR 4x4 package 302A.

I don't live in Canaduh. I just added the options found in Limited to a Lariat and womp womp, even with the $5800 discount it's $10,000 more. Ain't that about a bitch.

You can't even get half of the stuff on a Lariat on the Tacoma period
