During the show I think he said he spent 6 hours looking for it IIRC. Even with the tide, those things have some weight to them and couldn't have gone far unless he really whipped that jacket when he picked it up. Guess he should have gone with the 'bright orange' handle instead of the black, lol.

Thats what I'm thinking. The tide couldn't have taken it out further than a few feet from where it landed, definitely worth rolling your pants legs up or getting the water.

If they showed him looking for it, why wouldn't they show him going in the water to look for it? You can't edit out continuity and he never looked wet. The dude just gave up imo.

Been all over up there. Port Hardy, Port Alice , Mahatta River, Hiked to Cape Scott park the first time in 1970. Hiked and hunted all over there.

I've hunted bears there since 1976 and despite claims by some that the bears there are giant fire breathing tire biting truck eating snaggle-tooth man killers, the fact is that like anywhere else in the province, the toughest thing about hunting them is to get one to stop running away from you long enough to get a shot at it.

What i didnt quite understand about that Joe guy & his ferro rod deal was that it appeared he actually had a fire going while he was crying about losing the thing and you could actually see smoke behind him while he was giving up.

Well, if you actually HAVE a fire going, wouldnt your first instinct & reaction be to do everthing in your power to keep that fire going. Yeah i know its wet there, etc but keep a big pile of coals going, stuff them inside a damn tree stump or something if you have to while it's raining, etc....do something, don't just give up.

Seemed to me he was looking for an excuse to go home, which was strange as i didnt quite epect that from him.

On the actual episode he says he spent 2 hours looking for it. I just watched it again last night. Lol, I think he got scarred after seeing the bear.

I think so too. Also he tried to hard to fake cry right before he called to get picked up. He still hasn't responded to my last reply either.

Watched a rerun last night. Alan and Sam are the only two that seem the most prepared to go the distance. Being alone is what might get to them.

True, I had a good feeling g about Mitch since he was the 1st to get his fore going g but it seems the whole "no on around," is getting to him. I wonder if more people go home tonight? They seem tp be giving up pretty quickly considering the claims some of these guys make.

I think the cabin builder don't remember his name might give in after discovering the clay won't work. They have pepper spray so I don't understand the fear of black bears. Like I said before I have spent a lot of time in the woods including Alaska and have only worried more about brown bears than blacks.
the only one that didn't run when he saw me did after I waved my arms and shouted. I carry pepper spray because you never know and I don't act careless in their home either. wait till they see a cougar. Brown stains.

By the looks of the commercial I think one of the guys sees one tonight, I think Mitch says he sees one out his door in the commercials that have been playing. Yeah I think the guy who said the clay won't fire is kinda like Joe. Doesn't think things through, try to build a cabin and gives up cause he knew it is going to be to much work. He could chink in between logs with moss, worked for Dick Pronekke and a bunch of older settlers back in the day.

He also claims to be a survival expert, but if he was, he would have thought things through before chopping down 4 trees for nothing. Just a bunch of wasted calories and energy.

I wanna see them hunt/fish. So far the episodes have been missing that element.

Thats what the show says too. I also read an article today about a guy who took one down after it attacked his weiner dog, and the article spoke about another attack in the same area.

They should be more worried about cougars than bears. Wonder what effect pepper spray would have on one.

The other thing I noticed on the show is all the guys just setup thier shelters out in the open, where bears, cougars, wolves are all present. Looking at thier shelters, if the time comes, they have to defend 360 degrees around them, 180 degrees of which they will likely be blind due to thier tarp blocking thier view.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set up a shelter so your back is up against a rock out cropping, or a giant fallen tree so you're only having to defend what is immediately in front of you? I mean, I know it won't keep bears and animals away but at least you have some kind of protection.

    I mean that's just fort building 101...
